Seems odd that you wouldn't be able to see the folder on the PC; Windows doesn't hide files who's names begin with a "."

Uhhh I've just had a thought.... is it located in /sdcard/Android/data/com.whatever.app.name? These are protected folders that your phone's manufacturer may have decided to not expose via USB.

A few solutions I can think of:
1 - Are the files on an SD card? If so, eject SD card and use it in a card reader
2 - Does you file manager have a "share" option. You could "share" the folder with Dropbox or Goole Drive to get the files on to your computer that way.
3 - Copy the files out of that folder to a temporary folder on the SD card/external storage, then move them to your pc from the new location

I can't claim to be an expert on this stuff but I transfer files from my Android tablet by copying them on to a USB drive that has a microUSB on one end and a standard one on the other.

Buksi, sorry I misunderstood - thought you just wanted to delete the files. When you connect your phone to your computer you should get a popup on the phone letting you choose between mtp, ptp and adb.Choose mtp and in Windows (if using Windows) you should see your phone in file explorer. When I do this I can copy any files, even hidden ones. If you don't get this choice in a popup it may be that your version of Android doesn't show this in the popup or maybe you have the popup hidden. In which case go to settings/storage and change the usb connection settings to MTP (how this is presented may differ with android version). Hope this is more helpful this time.

Ok, have tried both methods MTP and PTP - still doesnt see that folder.

No sharing options with it as it is a system folder.

Have copied the folder to the SD card but it still doesn't show in Windows.

Edit: .sandbox folder with the images in it are on the phone, though I've copied it to the SD card - it still remains hidden in Windows.

Do you at least see other hidden files and folders when mtp selected? What Android version?

Nope, cant see any hidden files in Windows when connected as MTP. Android 4.2.2

May try booting to Ubuntu, if that doesnt work I'll just delete the bloody thing, photos on the phone are always crap anyway!

Edit: figured it out, it will only work in Chrome (obviously Google's browser
I did it in FireFox and it worked.

Hi Buksi, I just installed camera360 and had a play with it. As far as I can tell Camera360 saves photos to DCIM/Camera. Camera360/TempData/.sandbox is the camera360 database folder. Your pictures should be in DCIM/Camera (unless there's a way to change this). Every time you take a picture Camera360 saves the photo to DCIM and also saves 3 picture files in a new folder in .sandbox. These files are the same picture but are different sizes and called photo_org.jpg (larger than the saved photo in DCIM),share.jpg (quite small) and thumb.jpg. These files stick around even when the original photo is no longer in DCIM/Camera (moved, deleted). So, unless you've ever cleared .sandbox, it has arecord of everything you've ever taken with Camera360. After I deleted the .sandbox folder and started Camera360 again it made a new .sandbox folder.

I guess .sandbox should be cleared out now and again. Clearing .sandbox only clears Camera360's db, it won't affect photos in DCIM, which can be accessed normally (e.g. with Gallery) or by selecting Other albums in Camera360. Camera360 seems to have a sync function which will sync its database with what's in DCIM/Camera. I'll let you find out how yourself if you don't already know. :)

BTW, I couldn't see the .sandbox folder in Windows either.

Cheers.

You can simply rename the folder so it doesn't start with a dot using any Android file manager (root file manager if the folder is protected and you're rooted). This will make it show up in MTP and you will be able to copy away. Rename back after you're done.

I've done all the renaming, moving to SD card stuff, none of which works.

Thanks for the detailed explanation hhinner, an app that makes 3 copies of every photo and clogs up my phone is not one I want to keep - I've killed the sandbox folder and uninstalled the app - now have half my device storage space back!

Thanks for the efforts guys, Android is not my field!

Maybe take a look at Open Camera and/or CameraMX.

WhatsApp is to drop support for many older phones, arguing that they could hold back the app’s growth.

All Blackberry phones, as well as some Nokia and Android ones, are going to stop being supported by the end of the year, the company has announced.
