1 press on mine

Also for apps these 'Circle Launcher' apps are good, one icon that opens all your favourite numbers for one touch dialing, and similarly an icon for favourite websites or games etc

The 'GoLauncher' platform has some excellent graphics & customizabitlity for your 'home page' themes/wallpapers/icons etc. Plus loads of other handy features like the dock icons can be set up so that they open other apps by flicking them instead of pressing on them. The dock icons alone gives you about 30no. different executable actions, my SMS dock icon when pressed opens the sms app, but if I flick it instead it opens the alarm cock app. This way you don't need an alarm clock icon on your 'home page'. Or pressing email icon opens google mail, flicking it might open hotmail account. The bird reckons this new subtle flicking technique is the bees.

I don't know what the other alternative platforms are like but the 'Go' one lets you customize everything about it, the size of the icons, the number of rows/columns of icons, the number of dock icons, how the screens scroll, different screen transformation effects, lock apps not to be killed by a battery save "Close All Programs"... plus loads of difficult stuff I don't even get!?!?

Re: Android and particularly the S2, after a good few months of use now the only thing that is a bit of pain to me is battery life. For everything else it pee's on iPhones or any other phones I've had. Saw a HTC the other day someone had which appeared similar but never tried it!?

Anyone know where I can buy a Droid 3 in Hua Hin? I would prefer that over the Galaxy 2 that I may end up with.

What is a Droid 3?

I played with Go SJ and it's cool but I prefer Samsungs touchwiz.

I have kept golocker though, there unlock screen.

We're getting ics in Q1 which will hopefully sort out the admittedly poor battery life.

Droid is a Motorola brand phone the latest being the Bionic. It has features like an HDMI port and slide out keyboard which I would like.

Try the top floor of either Market Village or Shopping Mall.

Thai fads, they love Nokia, iPhone and BlackBerry.

Can't say Motorola would be near the top of my list tbh but I believe they make good phones.

I'd opt for Samsung or HTC.

I did the same exercise in Rayong, Pattaya and Bangkok a few months ago. I was told over and over again that Motorola doesn't distribute their cell phone products in Thailand any longer. No one knew the reason and I haven't researched it. J Mart, ( http://www.jaymart.co.th/ ) the largest phone retailer in Thailand, doesn't even list them any longer as a product line. Have to go to HK, Singapore, or perhaps KL but not sure about there. Pete

Here are a few apps I've found that some may enjoy:

Go Weather - GPS based weather reports for your location
Thai Weather - Satellite weather imagery for Thailand
Teamviewer - Remote PC desktop access
F1 Timer - Real time race stats, info and track positioning
MotoGP Timer - Same for two wheels
Stickman Golf - Highly addictive physics based golf game
Winamp - The best MP3 player now on your phone

I like PowerAmp.

Avast has just been released too.

Gamewise you can't beat the Gameloft stuff, you have to go their site for most of them though.

I wanted to find a motorola Droid phone but they aren't available here. I ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy 2. I purchased an AIS card and all was well for a few days. I got a message from Samsung that there was an update to the firmware so I loaded it. I guess Samsung and Google want to act like Microsoft and do things on customers behalf even if they don't know what they are doing at times. The firmware changed the phone so that it will no longer recognize AIS 3G. True and DTAC aren't affected. Just great. Since I have AIS I'm now screwed. I either have to find a way to get my firmware back dated or change my carrier. I could have ordered a DROID sent from the factory but bought the Samsung instead. I am trully pissed off.

I'm currently in Thailand, never had a problem.

Try plugging it into your computer.

There's a tool available in the market place called something like "Any APN", "Every APN", or "All APNs" which has the settings for every internet provider. I can't personally vouch for it, as my phone is dual SIM and like most apps that have anything to do with communications or settings they get confused with the second SIM, however other people have given it great reviews. Obviously you will need to get it by connecting to a WiFi access point, or doing an offline install.

Failing that you could try and search for and set the details manually but that is not much fun on Android! :(

If it's the internet & mms APN setting's that's been screwed you can add them manually into the phone, you just need to get the settings from AIS website or wherever. I've just done this for a friend's True settings, it's... Settings - Wireless & Network - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names... then very bottom left button of phone and 'New APN'.

There's a good app called 'APN Backup & Restore' which is handy. If you were struggling with it you could get someone with AIS to do the back-up with this app and bluetooth/email whatever it to you and you do a restore through same app. They're stored on the phone not the sim from what I could gather, but if you had 2 sims and swapped them over it recognizes which one's which and 'reloads' it's correct settings.

Looks like this could be the relevant AIS APN settings...
