Thai Lessons for English speaker

Post by ianc66 »

I've lived on and off in Thailand for 6+ years, nearly two in Hua Hin. My Thai is rudimentary I've taken some lessons, but not really impressed by the teacher. I'm especially interested in reading and writing Thai.

Can anybody suggest or recommend a teacher here in Hua Hin?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the board!
Personally I have never used a teacher as I have never found them to be any good. I would recommend buying a couple of books to learn the script, once you have grasped the basics then you'll quickly find yourself reading signs, notices etc.

Thai for Beginners by Benjawan Poomsan will introduce you to Thai script and
Thai for Intermediate Learners by the same author is not a bad book if you already have some grasp of the language. It focuses more on sentence structure and advanced vocabulary.

Above all don't be afraid to practise, speak it daily and you'll pick up new vocab constantly (it helps if you have a Thai girlfriend/wife

 )

Good luck.
