Hi all.
I have been watching this site (excellent by the way) for the last couple of months, as my wife and I will be holidaying here in July. From the information & links I have found here I think that we have probably made a good decision in choosing Hua Hin for the majority of our holiday, finishing with a few days sightseeing in Bangkok (any local suggestions from Bankokney regards drinking places would be appreciated)
However, as this is our first time in Thailand and on a non package holiday the only major question I still have, concerns the “taxi transferâ€
Taxi Transfers
Hi and welcome to the board!
Taxi wise from the airport, look at paying between 1,500 and 2,000 baht to Hua Hin. Any more than 2K and you're being taken for a ride ... literally! Yes its quite easy to arrange one back at any time. An alternative is the mini-van, theres a thread about it here:

No need to pre-arrange, I,ve never done it. ... but then I'm lazy!

I’m more the totally bone idle type of person, so I will take your advice and pick a taxi up at the airport, and sort the return trip whenever.
Thanks for the van tip, however the wife likes the idea of getting to the hotel with the least amount of hassle as possible. (I can just imagine me in a new city looking for a bus – could be very entertaining, as I am certainly no Christopher Columbus).
Thanks again, you have been a great help and it is much appreciated.

Just be aware at the airport on your arrival that there are many taxi-touts willing to take you for a ride. Don't be shy to haggle the price and as Lev said, 2000 baht should be tops. If anxious about it, you can book a hua-hin based taxi to collect you. I'm sure Lev can offer a tel no. It's all a bit of a culture-shock if you're unfamiliar with the system. I tip about 10% but I'm probably over-generous.
