Demolition of restaurants + shops in Poon Suk road

Post by HuaHin61 »

Demolition of (maybe illegal) restaurants + shops in Poon Suk road
side-by-side with the temple area,

   Demolition of restaurants + shops in Poon Suk road
a foto-blogger shows that in new blog-entry (not mine blog) :
http://plimpim.com/2017/05/10/hua-hin-a ... -suk-road/

some more well-visited restaurants less in HuaHin-City
so, there are some less reasons to visit this area.

That's very interesting, thanks for posting. I'm in Bkk at the mo, but back in HH on Friday and I'll have to go and have a look see.

When I first came to Hua Hin back in 2000, there wasn't really anything there. I recall in 2003, when I was getting a bit street wiser, that some late night 'pop-up' restaurants appeared there and served some very tasty food to soak up all the beer, but otherwise, during the day, it wasn't used. I was surprised having been a way a while to see the 'permanent' fixtures there, seeing as it backed directly onto the temple, but this was obviously sanctioned as okay by someone, somewhere. I wonder what's happened to change that - or is that already mentioned in the article?

Yes, I first started coming to Hua Hin in 2003 and restaurants were set up on that pavement every evening, I remember sitting outside the old Hogsbreath bar watching them being built about six, (and watching them being dismantled later if it was a late one!).
When I was back about a month ago, I noticed that a couple of them were closed down which I thought was a bit unusual but I suppose they knew that something was coming.

My daughter started her first business there selling Isaan food. At the time, Gaew (later Bam Bams) controlled the pitches there, and what she said was law. Whether or not she was the landlord, or just lorded it over other sellers because hers was the first pitch, I don't know.

My daughter was told she had to move (I think by the Tessebahn) when they started building the structures that are now being demolished. At that time, the buildings were allocated to long term Hua Hin residents, so my daughter was out for good.

That row of restaurants is hugely popular with the Scandinavian tourists, in high and off-high season they are close to full everynight. The Scandinavians are a very important segment of the foreign money coming into HH, well behaved, eating out a lot, --- So, spoiling their pleasure--not a good move.

This is a big shame. We rarely go into town these days but if we do we head to On On Corner. Nice people running the place and really good food.

In fact all those restaurants on that row are good places to dine.

It will be interestimg to see what becomes of the space there.

I was a regular customer of On-On restaurant even before it was a regular restaurant.
As far as I know this area belongs to the temple.
I am very surprised to what happens.

I must admit, we were regulars at those restaurants when we came here on holiday - I guess they were well priced and central. However, since moving here, I doubt we've used them more than 10 times in over 5 years.

I think what I'm trying to say, is they are very well placed to meet many tourist needs, and will be sadly missed.

Back in the day I used to sit in a bar on Binthabat and watch families walk from the Hilton at meal times and back again when meal time was over. It was always funny to watch because the men often hung back, taking a sneaky peak into the bars to see if anything caught there eye. Invariably, one or 2 always re-appeared alone an hour or so later.

We are friends with the owners of Bam Bams and have always used that restaurant when in town. It's sad to read of this as they have served the town well for many years.
Is Bangkok a place or a nasty injury.......Eric Morcombe.

As I said, they used to control the whole area, so maybe the demolition is their doing.

Bam Bams went quite a while ago now. I used to eat there from time to time and wondered to it / her.

Yes, back in the day they had a huge area under the trees, and when the buildings came, they had the largest unit. However, that unit downsized and downsized until it just disappeared.

16 years ago, but this is from the same place when my daughter worked there. Gaew's was the next place to the left.

What?! If I recall correctly the Moon Smile & Platoo is on the Poonsuk road? Where will they move? I feel everything is changing in Hua Hin really fast now...

Well the rumour last year was that ' the dark side' as some of us call it......or the corner of the Hilton road going back to the Cat bar/ disco area was going to be flattened and made into a food court like Soi 88. Perhaps these allegedly illegal stalls/ eateries are being cleaned away in preparation for the smaller food places moving to one area.
