Demolition of buildings on the railway road
Re: Demolition of buildings on the railway road
It might be a 'great loss' for the Thai's that own and visit the many different shops, small local food places, and bars that run along the road. I would rather see them there than a car park or another botched up area of land, like the one has been left behind after the demolition of the places on Poon Suk Road.
Railway Road Shops
Afternoon everyone,
What strength is there in the rumours that shops are closing in Railway Road due to the new railway system. I'm talking about Soi Phrom Suke/ Soi 68 and the road that runs past the top of Soi 80 from the railway station to Soi 88 railway crossing. I mean the shops that back on to the railway line.

Not rumours.
Re: Demolition of buildings on the railway road
We buy our eggs from the wholesaler on Soi 68. They have relocated to premises across the other side of the road because of this.

Thanks Big Boy. It was the egg shop I was interested in actually as I buy from there as well.
Re: Demolition of buildings on the railway road
The new shop is down the road (away from railway crossing), nearer the corner.

Re: Demolition of buildings on the railway road
It's happened before some years ago. That whole strip was demolished on the understanding that the road was to be widened. After a period of 'emptiness' new buildings were erected which are the ones you see today.
As work has already started on the dual-track system, I would guess that it's not a rumour and it will happen.

Re: Demolition of buildings on the railway road
The bit that is baffling me is they seem to be working on different sides of the track e.g. at the Soi 94 crossing.

Oh so it's going to be a scalextric track. I want to be first with the controls!
Re: Demolition of buildings on the railway road
The probably haven't realized that yet.
A bit off topic but ................. They have done a cracking job with the new sidewalk on the right hand side of the road, just passed the second set of lights if heading north. The new sidewalk is very nice indeed, just as good, if not better than you typically see in many other countries, and stretches from the lights to just past the weather station. Since it runs past the front of the school which two of my kids go to, I was able to watch progress, and was quite impressed to see that they were "attempting" to make the sidewalk wheelchair friendly by including ramps. However, the ramps were way too narrow, so a later assumed they were for motorbikes. Then I asked one of the workers and he confirmed that they were for wheelchairs. I pointed out that they were too narrow and too steep, and of course my farang stupidity was dismissed with a smile and a laugh, followed by a lot of Thai chattering. I then pointed to a sign board that effectively would prevent any anyone in a wheelchair from using the pavement. This was greeted with the same sort of response.
About a month after work was completed, back came the workers to widen all the ramps and to cut down the offending signboard.
Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

Good for you! You see, sometimes we can make a difference. Pete
