Appropriate dress for women tourists in Hua Hin Feb 2017

Post by joyvee »

I know that many people wore black immediately after King die to show their respect for him.

Has this dress code changed now? My friend was told that she should be wearing only black and white clothing.

Can women wear different colours but dress more circumspectfully during the current period of mourning?
What is happening in Hua Hin? Thanks for your advice. Joy

there's no law about clothing but the women that I know are still wearing black or wearing a black ribbon on a white or light colored blouse. that will probably go on until after the cremation or up to a year. for foreigners there is no expectation but modesty is appreciated as it shows respect.

My wife tells me other colors can be worn but definately not red. I stick with black or grey. She wears black, white with a black ribbon or black/white stripes.

No bright colors.

My other half still wears sombre to work, but in play time she's much more relaxed, nothing too bright or larey, but not really sombre either. I think tourists can wear whatever, but as above, just be aware of the situation. They still need the tourist dollar, after all.

Not sure about Hua Hin, but in Nakhon Pathom a lot of the locals are wearing coloured clothes. The 100 day remembrance is tomorrow, I think after that clothing colours will become more relaxed. If you're not a government employee, then black/white is not compulsory - as Caller says, tourists don't need to wear sombre coloured clothing.

The original 30 days was observed then life was relaxed. After the 100 days, expectations are almost back to normal. Government offices will honour the dress code for a year up to the cremation. The fact is that there is no law so left to the individual. Here in Hua Hin, I see many people, locals and tourists wearing what they are comfortable with.

You see all colors in town so no need to worry, if you want to be respectful where dark colors . I have seen Thais in the brightest colors and nothing is said.

Thank you for your words of wisdom . Maybe I will pack in black ribbon and wear that as a sign of respect. Especially as the first 100 days have passed.
