Mini typhoon on Petchkasem this afternoon?

Post by MLS »

Was anyone else unfortunate enough to be driving north toward HH centre, before Bangkok Hospital, at 14:25 today, when the rainstorm whipped up strong winds that sent tree branches - and possibly building material? - smashing into vehicles? It was very sudden, brief and startling, with zilcho chance to avoid the missiles, and resulted in the passenger side of my new car sustaining a sizable dent and some deep chips out of the paintwork. Lucky my windscreen wasn't smashed - the numerous bangs were so loud I really thought there would be far more damage. Ironically, I was on my way to Honda to pick up my insurance documents and English manual; Honda says I might be covered for repair (I very much doubt it as I thought these things were 'acts of God', but I guess it's worth them checking with the insurer).
Anyway, I'm putting it in perspective: compared to the sad loss of life outside MV this week it's nothing.

Perhaps it may be worthwhile to canvass the immediate area and see if there was any cctv evidence of what happened. It may help to independently validate the circumstances. I would suggest time is of the essence should systems in the area be looped every 24 hours.

With regards to Paint and Panel damage I am fairly sure that this is generally undertaken at Honda Pranburi rather than Honda Hua Hin as I have been advised by other Honda owners.

Paint damage is done at Honda HH, including minor filling, mine was repaired there. If major damage it may be done elsewhere.

Other Honda I owners I have spoken to around Hua Hin (both thai and foreigner) have similar views. I understand damage of any consequence is redirected from Honda Hua Hin to Honda Pranburi as they have full body shop and paint refinishing facilities. (neighbour recently had tow truck take his Honda to hua hin for crash repairs and was re directed to Pranburi.)

I was a car salesman in UK and the after care part of all business is the hardest ...and the most important to get right. The body shop manageress was so pleasant, she gave me a date for pick up which gave her 2 weeks (I said to friends that if this date is kept I will be massively surprised), I also had a couple of parking scrapes on the back bumper and asked her for a price to paint them, she told me 4750 baht which was very fair and so I accepted....figured it could easily be forgotten! She called 3 days before due date to confirm pick up and time (amazed) ...arrived to see the car beautifully clean and looking brand new, bumper scrapes done....thinking....something has gotta give here...surely cant be perfect. Well it got better...I offered the 4750, she said not worry..Insurance paid!! So i gave her a very good tip and left with a smile...awesome job done :).
