I make a point of walking the beach on 25 Dec, and haven't had a problem yet.

Probably sounds patronising, but it depends on the weather. Most days this year I have walked on the beach with my dogs. If the tide is high, and its a bit windy, my walk has been aborted.

What I will say is that the end of November does tend to bring storms. Here's a short video made in November 2010 at Khao Takiab.

you should get a ocean tides table app on your smart phone.

if the tide is high, it is harder to walk on th beach without going up to your knees in water in some places.

walking south, the beach gets narrow around Takiab Soi 1, about 200 yards north of Wat Takiab.

low tide very easy.

I walk the beach regularly in the mornings and each year I write the exercise off from some point in December until the end of February/beginning of March because of high tides.
I don't try and do the walk every day, so some may be OK but that's my general rule of thumb.
You can get from the centre of town to Chiva Som or The Hyatt OK, so approx halfway to Takiab, but after that it's not easy. The major danger you'd have to watch out for is avoiding large rocks that have been left from sea wall repairs and are invisible at high tide.
I stress that this is in the mornings. I've no idea what the afternoons are like.

Walking on the beach in Hua Hin is terrible. If you can avoid the horse crap, the dog sh#t and the M150's and general crap left on the beach, good luck to you. Never understand why people think this is a nice walking beach. On top of it the water is polluted and full of sea lice and jelly fish.

Please feel free to counter any of my points. What part of the beach is nice? I get on at 102. Let us know the best part so that we can be enlightened?

On the question of Hua Hin's beach, I used to be baffled before I lived here and people complained about the cleanliness of the beach. However, I think opinion changes with familiarity (and the closer to the shoreline you walk).

I walk the beach most nights (some days) with my dogs, and we cover about 3 miles every night (used to be double, but the vet advised one of our dogs was getting too much exercise). There are places now, that i actually hate walking, and there are smells associated with them. I hate it if my dogs go into the water at these points, but it doesn't seem to do them any harm.

IMHO the best part of Hua Hin Beach is the Intercontinental to Silom stretch. Unfortunately, a group of fisherman has adopted a part of that section to moor their boats recently, so not as attractive as it was a few months ago.

Most of the rubbish is washed ashore, not dumped on the beach, and most is found near the high tide mark. However, the horse droppings are not pleasant (especially if one of your dogs considers it a delicacy  ). We often carry a spare bag and gather glass objects that have been washed up as we walk. However it would be nice to see the businesses who rely on the beach for their livelihood doing a bit more e.g. the Intercontinental spend hours at night smoothing nice patterns into the sand prior to events e.g. weddings, but the rubbish outside of the patterned area just sits there. The only time I've seen a half decent beach clean-up was prior to this year's Beach Polo event. Of course, it's a Forth Bridge job with a fresh load of debris being dumped with every tide. You will never beat it, but you can control it. Having said this, I guess tides all over the world dump rubbish onto beaches.

In conclusion, if the tide is out, and you can avoid the tide line, Hua Hin Beach can look beautiful. If the tide is in, the 'dirty side' is harder to avoid. Water quality is questionable in certain areas - these can be avoided by using your nose. Would I swim there? I have many times in the past, but I doubt it now. Sometimes, when caught by the tide, we have no option but to wade.

We usually walk north of the airport towards Cha Am and most times its fine. At low tide especially it can be lovely all the way past the Dusit Thani and the Sheraton.
As Big Boy says there can be washed up debris (from fishing boats) this is mentioned in many threads in this Forum and we pick up and dispose of it.
I do not know about south of Hua Hin but try different places and I'm sure you will find nice places to walk.
Remember you are in Thailand and Thais do not have the same feeling of responsibility for rubbish. If you find that you still cannot accept it I suggest you go somewhere else.

Years ago, the beach in front of the Sofitel down to the Marriott hotel, used to be cleaned at night. I suspect that properties fronting that area of beach, clubbed together to supply the manpower to clean the beach.
Several times, the wife and I were having a late night meal in the beach side Italian restaurant in the Marriott and watched them raking that whole section of the beach.

Walking the beach in HH was never on my list of favourite things to do, especially in the evening, as the beach in front of our house, down as far as the Hilton, was usually occupied by packs of roaming ferrel dogs.
One of the reasons we had to raise the see wall and erect a stainless steel fence and gate at the end of our garden, was to stop these ba@@@rds climbing up the steps from the beach and crapping all over our garden.

I know from when friends stayed there earlier this year that Sofitel (Centara Grand) invite guests to help them clean the beach each morning.

BigBoy Definitely not guests doing the cleaning back then, as they were all wearing uniforms of different hotels fronting the beach in that area.

I think at the prices Sofitel charge, they could afford to pay Thais to do it. Bit cheeky to ask the guests to clean the beach, before they can sunbathe on it!
What next, cleaning the crappers, weeding the garden?

However, there are people that like to do their bit for the environment, so good luck to them.

I'm not saying guests take them up on their offer, but the offer open to all guests.

I walk the beach most nights (not outside Sofitel), and the only hotel we see regularly cleaning their beach is the Intercontinental - usually before a beach ceremony e.g. wedding. However, although very thorough, it does cover a limited area of beach.
