An on-line legend but unfortunately we never met but had a few private messages. Fearless even when banned, barred or whatever. His entertaining jibes will be missed. 8809 posts. not a man to hold back

For people who can't make the funeral on Wednesday there will be monks doing the chanting from 8pm tonight.
On Wednesday they will start approximately 2 hours before the cremation at 4 pm.

The flowers sent by the Forum looked lovely.

Good to see so many at the Temple for the service and to raise a glass or two or more  at Romantic Bar afterwards. A sad day but good memories

May I add an (almost) final note to this thread concerning poor Richard...
As H.H.jim stated above..there were many faces there this afternoon..some I did not know, but many had made a real effort to be there..not just battling with local traffic, but for instance Peter & Janet...flying from the U.k after forking-out £1000 in travel ins. as well as the flight cost... that is true loyalty..
.. :thumb:

The temple staff did a wonderful job, from the flowers, to aiding Richard's daughters with the in's & out's of the ceremony.
When the time came his close friends acted as the bearers & proceeded to carry him whilst following the monk across the whole length of the building to the oven... accompanied by the almost haunting tones of Pink Floyd's 'Shine on you crazy diamond' being played thru' what must be nearly 20 speakers inside that hall..

His family members all agreed that despite not knowing what to expect today at a Thai-style cremation. they felt a sense of peace & comforting acceptance of how the whole service was orchestrated. :thumb:

Also may I just add a big thank you to the many Thai ladies who knew Richard...for helping with drinks, snacks, & many of the little 'extras' that helped todays service go well.

And on behalf of all the H.H. forum members, we wish Khun Richard 'Bon Voyage'.

Well done to all involved. Seems like you gave him a good send off. A special mention for Chris, Puy and his staff at The Romantic Bar. R.I.P

I have just returned to UK from Hua Hin, attending the funeral with Richard's daughters and brother.

To add to usual suspect's "almost" final note, may I also extend my personal thanks, to the many members of this forum who showed such a willingness to both help a friend and to support his family.

You all know who you are and, as a very long standing friend of Richard and his family in the UK, I also add my personal thanks.

His family and friends will be eternally grateful. It was indeed, "One Hell of a Ride"

Never met the guy but could tell he was a real character by reading his posts. Lost my Dad earlier this year so I know how his daughters have been feeling, keep remembering him from the good times and tell your kids about him, that's how I manage it.

Not long since we all noted Richards passing. Enjoyed his numerous contributions to the forum. What a wealth of knowledge he contributed to the forum on all aspects of life in Hua Hin including to the "hidden forum". As an expat living in the area for a couple of months each year am putting out the challenge to permanent resident contributors to the forum to fill the void. Vale Richard

It is with great sadness and embarrassment that I posted an earlier comment this morning regarding Richard - I never knew his surname and somehow missed that this thread referred to him. One of HH's most memorable forum members, RIP Richard.

Richard will be remembered today, by family and friends at a "get together" in his honour at Basingstoke Cricket Club - a place that he loved. This has been arranged by daughters Emma and Polly, who many of you will have met.

The "get together" will begin at about 12:30 UK time and will continue during the afternoon's play. It will be an informal affair, as I am sure that he would have wished.

If anyone has time, perhaps they would care to raise a glass to his memory in Thailand later this evening.

There will be a final tribute to Richard, later in the year when some of his remains will be taken back to his native and beloved Yorkshire.

Shine on, you crazy diamond!
