Yep BB that's how I remember it.
A bit more traffic now.
A bit more traffic now.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Whats really noticeable, is that othe than in the Sofitel and the beach, there are hardly any farangs to be seen. I now know when the Hilton was built - I assume that if this was 1991, it would have been by 1992.

For those who are interested in new roads, here is a video of the new road from Tap Thai (Palm Bistro) to Soi 112 that really makes a dramatic difference to the journey and negates the need to go down Soi 88.

Posted in the UAV thread and wanted to include a link here; something to show the ever-expanding wonder of the town:

And for those of a more 'artistic' nature, the same film with a 'shrinkray' applied, making it look quite the model village:

Fantastic stuff, I presume the drone has some serious stabilisation mechanisms on it, are you using GoPro to capture the vids? Very smooth.

There is a 3-axis electronic gimbal that is attached via dampers to the airframe, it really is rock steady. The Phantom 3 Pro has a 4K camera that is 'made' by DJI and provides an end-to-end system. I believe it uses a Sony CCD and chipset but would imagine it's very similar to the GoPro, with a 9-element lens removing the former model's fish-eye effect.
A lot of effort seems to have gone into DJI's apps to run the whole show and it's very cool to review the flight on google maps during and after the event including an impressive telemetry dataset and stick inputs. The control system is all new and uses their Lightbridge technology to provide both the FPV video, at 720p, and the RC data over the same frequency, giving a much greater range for both.
It seems DJI is going into camera development whereas gopro are rumoured to be looking at launching their own drone sometime soon. It just means better, more affordable tech.

Re: Hua Hin Video thread
Great videos, I was wondering if one could still fly a drone anywhere in Thailand.
Great to see the answer is yes. Thanks for the vid on the new road, as my friend lives just off Soi 112
and I never liked getting there on the main drag. too much traffic.
