Sad news, I remember Holger from the good old days, he used to force Jaegermeisters down my neck every time I went into the Celtic Bar.

Rest in peace old friend.

Holger has been a great friend for the last 12 years.

Like buksi said many a time I have walked or stumbled away from the celtic with jaegermeister poisoning.

A gentleman and a great friend who will be sorely missed.

RIP holger.

His body was brought to Bangkok to find out the exact dead reason!
Well, due to his body weight a heart attack would not really be a surprise.
The big problem beside this tragedy is that Holger took care of his
nearly 90year old mother in Huahin, who is alone now! But i got informed
that Theo from old Germany restaurant is helping her and definitely he will
have all further informations concerning dead reason or funeral etc.

For those of us who didn't know Hogus, could someone give us some background, please? Perhaps a little obituary.
This is the way

Here's a history of his posts. A friendly poster from what I recall from years back. Pete

search.php?author_id=807&sr=posts

EDIT: Here's his first post from April 2005:

"At first, thanks to my friends for telling me about this forum and the website "huahinafterdark".

Like tuctucmike I was a regular customer in the Celtic Bar, former Shamrock, for more about 6 or 7 years.
I never had any problems and could spend innumerable nights of fun together with my friends and the service-girls.
Honestly I must confess that I wasn't amused to hear, that the new Thai-Management started to speak bullshit around about regular customers like me, preferably behind the back.

I really can't say, that the new girls in Celtic are arrogant or careless.
Like the most Thai-girls, which are growing up in a village, they're just uneducated.
(It's not the wrong of these girls, that the public school system in this country is absolutely worst).
They really try to do their best, but all takes time.
On the other side it's more than just ridiculous to allow a young Thai-man, which isn't able to speak another language than Thai and hasn't apparently any other business-skills, to manage a Bar for TOURISTS, like the Celtic.
But I'm sure they will find out by their self, that anything doesn't match, especially if the sales falling-off.

By the way, a Swedish man bought the Bar for his Thai-wife for more about a half year ago.
I could meet him sometimes, and we had a good time together with a lot of Aquavit-drinks.
May be everything is ok in his eyes!? Who knows ? and that shouldn't be the business of family-outsiders normally, too.
Of course, me and my wife will keep more distance to the Celtic Bar in future, because we don't need to be involved in any mess.

Nobody is being forced to visit the Celtic Bar, and if you don't like this place anymore, just go to another Pub. there're a lot!
Remember, you don't need any bartender, but the bartender needs you and your money!!!

Although this isn't a private chat-room, best regards to Rosso, tuctucmike and buksida.
Hope to meet all of you for couple of drinks (the well-known German liqueur, of course :D ) soon.
Cheers!

I am not going to try and write an obituary but as for holger,

You could not fail to like him, a larger than life character with due to his german accent had some quirky sayings.

One I remember most is when he describes the past it was always, in the former times.

I know he lived many years elsewhere in thailand before his wife died, my understanding is that he then moved to hua hin.
In them days the town bars really only consisted of binta and along by the back of the temple and of course bernies and what is now the karaoke area.

Some good people have gone from those days as mags im sure would testify but the loss of holger at 48 is truly a sad one.

I do hope they have large stocks of jaergermeister where he has passed on to.

This is indeed very very sad news.

I had quite a few nights on shooters with him and must say I never had the same liking for Jaegermaster as he had. I used to ask him how he could like cough mixture so much.

I remember one epic night.

We each started with a pint of Kilkenny in Crawfords then followed it with 9 different shooters each of our menu.

Preferring not to get totally legless in my own pub, we then went on a wee bit of a pub crawl for more shooters. No idea what else we had but it was a lot.

Then Holger suddenly announced 'Ken, I have had enough, I have to go home, jumped on his motorbike and was gone, with my words 'German wimp' ringing in his ears. But he was no wimp, a good friend and a true gentleman. For a while, he had a girlfriend who worked in the Celtic Bar so he also drank in there quite a lot.

My hangover lasted about 3 days!!!
