POLL: How many forum members live in Hua Hin?
Re: POLL: How many forum members live in Hua Hin?
I ticked a few months a year, I still work on a 1 for 1 basis offshore, but spend my leave in Hua Hin

Re: POLL: How many forum members live in Hua Hin?
I chose "not in Hua Hin itself" because I live in Paknampran (as opposed to Pranburi City ).
I've lived in Thailand non-stop for the last 12 years - originally in Pattaya for 1 year, then in Isaan (rice-farming village in Khon Kaen) for 3 years, before moving down here 8 years ago.
Personally, I wouldn't live in HH if you paid me - I much prefer the relaxed way of life down here, knowing that if I do have to go to "the big smoke" it's only a 20 minute drive away.
In 12 years I've never really thought that I'd prefer to live elsewhere and have never felt the urge to re-visit Europe.

We have lived in Hua Hin for 7 months now. Never regretted settling here. Wouldn't know why the way of life here should not be relaxed. And I have made friends with our resident soy dogs. More rewarding than getting "annoyed" by them!

I was due to move out there in December 2012, but we're now looking at late March this year, as we still have to re-house our cats and my 20 yr old son (harder to re-house than the bloody cats) so we're still dreaming, but have all the paperwork organised.

With a 7 year old daughter I'm glad I am after reading the school horror story from HHTel. It's the most sensible, friendly and interesting forum in Thailand that I've found, and has a "community feel" to it which I like a lot. The community is not just necessarily Hua Hin only, but all of Thailand regardless of where a member is. What people post is usually applicable no matter where you live here, discounting the local domestic chit chat....but even that is valuable when people visit down there.
We've picked up a handful of new regular posters over the past year, but we need more IMO as people get burned out after several years. Evidenced by my decreased posting habits, SJ, Spitfire and a few others. Pete
A lot of the other Thailand forums are either dead(no posters) or have too many trolls lurking on the forum.

I live in Thung Wua Laen. After nearly 8 years living in the madness of Phuket I prefer a quiet laid back place now.

I have not done a rainy season yet so will have to wait and see.New bar opened up last week( shows all the sport not that it bothers me ) and you can get Indian curries here now( from me) and there have been a few new arrivals over the last few weeks.jingjoe wrote:I live in khao kalok after the quiet life at thung wua laen was driving me mad..lol great spot but now i have found the median balancerichie22 wrote:I live in Thung Wua Laen. After nearly 8 years living in the madness of Phuket I prefer a quiet laid back place now.

Full time for about 8 years, first 6 in HH but now out in Dolphin Bay. No intention to leave as the area has golf at a reasonable price, (member of Majestic), good choice of bars and restaurants at good prices, nice beach and countryside, and I can go to HH twice a week but NEVER on weekends!
Have spent time in Pattaya, Phuket, Samui and Bangkok but I can't tick all the boxes in those places as well as I can here, Isaan and the North are great to visit but couldn't live there. Future plan is 7 months here and 5 months in Cornwall every year, home of my kids and grandkids, hoping to get back there for Flora Day this year.

Where are you from in Cornwall?I lived in Newquay for 25 years.OK for a visit now and again but do not think I could do 5 months there.Beautiful place if the weather is good but I have heard it has been terrible the last few supposed summers.cookmanchef wrote:Full time for about 8 years, first 6 in HH but now out in Dolphin Bay. The problem with thung wua laen is just before songkran starts all the westerners go back to europe for the euro summer, all the kitesurfers go home in march because no winds, its a ghost town until november, but lovely beach and locals are friendlyrichie22 wrote:I have not done a rainy season yet so will have to wait and see.New bar opened up last week( shows all the sport not that it bothers me ) and you can get Indian curries here now( from me) and there have been a few new arrivals over the last few weeks.jingjoe wrote:I live in khao kalok after the quiet life at thung wua laen was driving me mad..lol great spot but now i have found the median balancerichie22 wrote:I live in Thung Wua Laen. After nearly 8 years living in the madness of Phuket I prefer a quiet laid back place now.

I am travelling about 2-3 times a month delivering Indian food.Chumpon is pretty central for Phuket ,HH and the Islands so not that bothered. What I love about it is that I can leave my house go into Chumpon buy all my stock and be back home cooking within 1 1/2 hours, in Phuket it used to take me over that just to get to Makro 12 klms away from house.

Is the Beehive pub still there in Helston? It used to be my local when I was based at Culdrose back in the eighties. I have many very good memories of that area and I have to say that a lifestyle moving between somewhere like that and Thailand sounds ideal.Future plan is 7 months here and 5 months in Cornwall every year, home of my kids and grandkids, hoping to get back there for Flora Day this year.

I moved to Helston from Leicestershire in 1990 and the kids have grown up and made their home there ever since. Not too worried about perfect weather to be honest, love being on Mullion Golf Course at 06.30 for 9 holes whatever the weather and then back there again at 18.30 for another nine holes and a couple of pints of Cornish Rattler.richie22 wrote:Where are you from in Cornwall?I lived in Newquay for 25 years.OK for a visit now and again but do not think I could do 5 months there.Beautiful place if the weather is good but I have heard it has been terrible the last few supposed summers.cookmanchef wrote:Full time for about 8 years, first 6 in HH but now out in Dolphin Bay. Have a lot of good friends there as well as family and can go to 3/4 Spurs games before returning here September/October before it gets dark and miserable. If things go well this plan could start next year.
