Been to the Post Office a few times to query non-delivery of mail. Went upstairs and found a large cardboard box lying on the floor full of mail for our development. TOT bills, Tru Vision etc plus lots of personal letters. Usual response - shrug of the shoulders..
Came home today and found lots of mail in our post box - one in particular that affects my pension was posted in UK on 12 Jan, arrived in Bangkok central office on 22 Jan - delivered here today 27 Feb. What a load of cr*p. Apparently our postal delivery person fell off her bike and was unable to ride again, so hey, no delivery for weeks. Now I have to contact my pension provider and hope they haven't cancelled payment because I haven't answered their letter....!!!

Was the mail sent via (I don't know the correct names) the British government post service to the Thai equivalent? Or was EMS involved? If it's the former, I applaud your bravery. If it's the latter I'm now concerned about my use of EMS. Or maybe I've never had problems because duty always needs to be paid.

Sent from the UK via Royal Mail by airmail. No problem with the mail between UK and Bangkok. Problem is between Bangkok, Hua Hin post office and to the receiver. No EMS involved, however cannot see why if the the mail costs are paid, why the local posties don't get off their arses and deliver....

It seems to be specifically the HH post office that are at fault - I used to live there and had a variable delivery service, but since moving to Cha Am, the service is much better with the best delivery by normal post from the UK was just 6 days.

I mirror many of the experiences stated previously. I had an EMS package that was sitting in the Post Office for two days (I always online track my EMS packages). When I went to inquire about it was told to go to the back so went there and showed them the online tracking information that showed it was in Hua Hin. Someone reluctantly checked his computer and found it and told me it was here. Yes, and I replied that I was also hear to receive it too which had to be repeated twice as he couldn't understand why I would not go away. Low and behold it was in a bin on the floor next to him and I had to ask to receive it. He did not seem to happy to have to deliver my package to me.

I have just moved to Khanom and had to go to Post Office to get a EMS package that had not been delivered. Wrong address on package caused problem but the next EMS delivery yesterday (with the correct address) arrived at our home right on schedule. I might also note that the back mail sorting area in the "booming metropolis" of Khanom was as clean as a whistle with no boxes or packages laying around. Very unlike Hua Hin P.O. where its obvious the P.O. needs a much larger facility.

mail (non-)delivery in Hin Lek Fai, Thaptai etc.

Post by georgy »

I just come from 2nd floor of post office.
Seems the postman for Thaptai, Hin Lek Fai etc has resigned some months ago.

"Solly, solly".... amazing Thailand!

All ordinary mail for mentioned area is just stored there in huge boxes.
Please go and check your and your neighbours mail in 2nd floor.

Anyone else have problems in receiving mail. I get letters no problem however in recent months my bank card has not arrived three times now Lloyds offshore will only send to me if i pay for DHL. Also three airline membership cards have not arrived. I don't want to accuse anyone but it seems strange, My wife went to main post office and they gave her a form to fill in for each occasions but she has never heard back and how could they possibly investigate if the letter is sent by standard mail.

I must say that every letter I've known about sent from the UK by normal mail in the last 12 months to my address has arrived. However, if it's anything important I ensure they send it 'to be signed for.'

My point was that we do receive normal mail but it seems whenever there is a card inside, any card not just credit card the letter does not arrive.
banks do not as a norm send their mail, even bank cards by registered mail and if you apply for airline membership they do not send by registered mail.

Whenever I've had 'important' mail sent from the UK I've made sure that it's recorded. That way, it's handed over to EMS in Thailand and it's always arrived although sometimes very late. I recently had new ATM cards sent from my address in the UK. The tracker showed that it arrived in Bangkok 3 days after being posted in a little sub post office in the north. Then it took a further 10 days to get from Bangkok to Hua Hin!!

Not doubting you but how did you tell an automated online application system (airline membership application) to send it via registered mail when they have no option for this. Same as bank credit card, they are sent automatically a set period before expiry they do not ask do you want it sent via registered mail.
If you have the option of recorded delivery it is different. If I knew a way to do this I would not be questioning.

Like I said normal mail seems to be no problem

I have the same done as HHTel in as much as cards are sent on by family from the UK (in fact, I don't have any choice as my UK bank will not send the cards overseas).
When my family send, they disguise the package as best they can - for instance with cardboard and writing "photos, please do not bend" on the envelope.
I've never had a problem with any card that's been sent over in 15 years.

Sounds like a plan for the future, just wish we didn't have to go to these lengths though.

I'm expecting an important parcel from the UK that was sent requiring proof of delivery. The parcel is trackable online. For 5 days (upto the last time I checked on 11 Aug) I was getting 'Delivery being arranged from OFFICE Unknown'. I've checked this morning and get:

This is the second time this has happened - guess where I'm going this morning? :banghead: :banghead:
