Yes, Mrs D-M was in there this afternoon and was quite impressed. Bigger than the Lotus near the flyover.

Looking at the products... if the store had a Tesco sign outside, I wouldn't have known the difference.

Yes Mr P, I would expect it to stock the same mainstream products, fresh meat, fish & veg etc but it may also stock the odd elusive item that Lotus, Villa Market etc don't and more importantly for those living North of town, Canal Road etc they avoid a trip into town. :thumb:

:agree:
Yes, it's not likely to be significantly different from Lotus since they are, after all, both supermarkets.
But the plus side, as Pagey, says, is the location. We now live north of town. It takes us about 12-15 minutes to get to the Shell garage, but it can take another 15 to get from there to Market Village.

There will also be the Venice development in due course, and we have the option of using the Klong road to come into town,
This is the way

By the sound of it, the new "Big" C in HH seems a similar size to the new one in Cha Am that opened a couple of weeks ago. Ok so it doesn't stock everything you might need, but it has all the basics including self service fruit and veg that is not pre-packed and also a meat and fish counter where you can choose what you want. It also has a great little in-store bakery and the baguettes are really nice, much better than they sell in Tesco or Makro. Assuming they are both similar, a great food shopping addition, especially for those living on the north side of town.

Good luck to the store - but "Big C"?
No - "Tiddly Widdly C"!
Insulting!

No. They are more comparable than say, the 'G' supermarket, which IS 'significantly different' in that it doesn't have freshly cooked food, fish and meat counters, coffee shop, bakery, white goods or mobile phone shops. Or Villa Market, due to its high pricing and range of imported foods.
But the plus side, as Pagey, says, is the location.
For me too.

I'm looking forward to that too. They have been very slow but making good progress now. I expect Venetia to be expensive since rents for businesses are high.

Am I the only one who wasn't impressed.
The bakery and frozen goods sections seem better than the other supermarkets but overall it appears to be more pricey. One I noticed
was Pedigree dog food, 47 Baht in the shopping mall and 52.50 Baht
there with many other items being 3 or 4 Baht more then elsewhere.
The ladies will notice these little differences, my Thai wife says that she wont go again and judging by a nearly empty car park at 19.00 tonight the company will have to take note if they wish to remain competitive.
Having said that when all the other outlets have been constructed
the ease of parking will overide the extra Baht you will be paying.

My 2 Bahts worth: My pet :cuss: every second isle blocked up with either a pallet of stock, the pallet truck, OR both! My second pet :cuss: : the over loud "music" ( a local radio station I believe), frequently interrupted by the PA with sales promotions! Next: weigh and price stations unattended, followed by a scowl when I ended up asking a girl that was only interested in re-stocking the shelves. Prices I do not take much notice of, if I need it I get it, and as I usually shop in Bangkok, not really fair to compare.

Finally: I wonder just how long it will be before somebody gets killed trying to get out of the car park with the view to oncoming traffic blocked by (I guess Big C) advertising signs.

I would not be surprised if the intention is to eventually extend the size of the shop, as the vacant land on the west side appears to be part of the lot.

Yes I agree with all you have said - the over loud music and PA system is just terrible.

I was expecting it to be a lot better, so although I live in the vicinity, I shall continue with Makro and Villa Market, which is a shame because I have always thought the fresh food in Big C at Phetchaburi was very good

Been there today..
Bakery..Yes, some tantalizing creations there, plus Ciabata bread at 35B. :thumb:
Rest of stuff I went for generally more expensive than Gee or Tesco Express.
Low-energy light bulbs were all priced at 190B..in Tesco they are marked-up according to wattage..5w,warm being 94B (that makes Big C's bulbs damn pricey). :tsk:
Agree with pallets etc in the isles..the Thais have no concept of re-stocking after the store has closed..555!
In HH shopping Mall I got used to staff squat-down,huddled together, eating noodle-soup thru' the daytime years ago. :D
Pet hates..?? Parents allowing kids to ride inside the trolly..was down at Pranburi-Tesco last week, & just about EVERY kid up to the age of ~10 was sat in the trolly while mum n dad piled groceries on top of them..so yes they were still sat in there thru' the check-out..grrr.. :cuss:

Getting back to the BIG C on the Pala U Rd..why have they made such a small entrance when they've all that frontage..??
Also when leaving in a car/pick-up beware of the Big C sign at the roadside to your right..it is right in your line of vision for oncoming motorcycles!.. (just inch out each time).
