Been raining all night here in the East, south coast. Slow and steady, so it appears some of this storm is beginning to arrive. Pete

That is huge, and we seem to be right in it's way.

I actually started securing things outside when you warned us a couple of days ago.

Yes, the question is if it will make it across the upper gulf to you before breaking up. For me, morning sun is fading replaced by lines of clouds off to the northeast. I'm assuming it will get worse from here on out tonight and tomorrow. Pete

Hmm, the storm is nowhere near the upper Gulf, of which Bangkok is part of. It is overcast in Bangkok but very little wind. There is a westerly air flow towards the storm, which is causing the clouds you can see in Hua Hin.

The storm is moving in a northwesterly direction and will continue to dissipate as it moves over the north east of Thailand. Where you are Pete you have a westerly onshore flow from across the lower Gulf which may very well bring you some rain, but in Hua Hin it is more likely to just pass overhead.

I'm losing faith in the Thai TMD site. One entry says the storm is going due West, another map says WNW. Many of their radar site locations are either down or hours old.

I have more faith these days in the Himawari-8 satellite link above to see what's really going on. It seems to be real time with no delays. Pete

Below is some official looking stuff from Pearl Harbor typhoon HQ if you can understand it.

The only true forecasts are based on the synoptic charts. Radar is ok for closer in evaluation, or if you are in a ship or in an aeroplane.

The following charts show the wind speed and direction and the pressure gradient. If you click on any of the charts they will expand into a much bigger picture.

Building collapses as landslides, floods hit Phuket

Online news:
PHUKET - A nine-storey hotel under construction in Kathum district collapsed during a landslide with heavy rain throughout the island province on Friday. No casualties were reported.

Authorities declared the construction site of the collapsed hotel at Ban Hua Khuan a danger area.
Four other landslides hit a villa at Kalama beach, an area in front of Rimpa on Patong-Kalim beach, an area in front of Chao Por Sua shrine at Patong, and a condominium in Ratsada area of Muang district.

Hours of torrential rain caused flooding in Muang, Thalang and Kathu districts, with the water 20-30cm deep.
Sayant Chanachaiwong, chief of Kathu district, ordered the evacuation of 12 householdsi near landslide-hit areas in the district.

Praphan Khanprasaeng, chief of the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, said municipal workers had already cleared up the areas hit by landslides. Water pumps were installed to drain water from flooded areas.
