Monsoon 2017

FYI, the Thai Met has stated that the monsoon has arrived, "The southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea and Thailand is stronger."....

Publications from India and Sri Lanka are banking on its arrival Thursday, May 25,

"THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 22:
The Sri Lankan Department of Meteorology has said that South-West monsoon conditions are likely to be established over the country during the next few days, especially from May 25, which is the normal date of onset of rains for the country.

The island nation is the penultimate port of call before the monsoon races into the neighbouring South-East Arabian Sea and hits the Kerala coast, the first point of impact over mainland India.".....

So, it appears relief from the heat and the green season is beginning. :D Pete

BANGKOK — Bangkok and much of the nation will be inundated by heavy rains through Monday as monsoon season thunders in.

Most of the country will see heavy rain roll in from the north and move down toward the capital and central provinces. Showers will reach the south by the weekend.

Bangkok and surrounding areas will see a 70 percent chance of rain, some heavy, through the weekend. Expect lows of 25C and highs of 37C.

The public is advised to be on the lookout for flash floods. Small ships on the Andaman Sea coast have been advised to refrain from leaving shore until weather conditions improve.

Hey it is raining in Calgary today as well, but over here we do not have many worries of extreme
rains causing flooding, of course one province west of here, there is a place called the Oakanagan
valley that has a lake with high levels and flooding in parts around it. Good luck to people in Bangkok
and other areas that are getting hard hit by the rain.

The low pressure is expected to move up to the upper part of the bay and Myanmar during Saturday to Monday.

In its 15th warning, issued at 5am on Saturday, there is forecast of heavy rains in the following provinces:

North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, Kamphaeng Phet and Tak.

Northeast: Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

Country told to brace for torrential downpours, flooding

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/br ... s/30316620

Most parts of Thailand have been warned to expect heavy downpours that could trigger flash floods while two tambons of Sukhothai's Khirimas district continue to suffer severe flooding that has affected almost 40,000 residents and almost 18,000 rai (3,000 hectares) of farmland.

The Thai Meteorological Department warned that a tropical depression over Bengal Bay, which became tropical cyclone Mora, is forecast to make landfall over Bangladesh and Myanmar on Tuesday.

It said a strong southwest monsoon prevailed across the Andaman Sea and Thailand and would lead to torrential downpours across the country, especially in the North, the Northeast, the Central region, the East and the upper South.

Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief Chatchai Phromlert reported that since May 16 flooding had occurred in 52 districts of 15 provinces, affecting 21,074 households and leading to five deaths.

Floods had receded in 14 provinces.

Khirimas district’s tambons Sampoung and Thung Luang are still inundated with floodwaters of up to 50 centimetres deep, he said.

He said officials from the province had opened the Pak Phra sluice gate to drain floodwater while officials were helping affected residents.

The water level is dropping, he said.

Overnight rainfall resulted in runoffs from the Sap Sua Map mountain ranges inundating many homes and roads in several tambons of Lop Buri's Muang district early Monday.

Nothing going on or appears pending on the south coast here. Nice evening with sun and scattered clouds. Perhaps thunderboomers later, or confined to the pattaya area as it often is....we'll see. Pete

The Meteorological Department on Wednesday June 7 warned the residents of eight provinces to brace themselves for heavy rains and possible flash floods from Wednesday until Friday.

In its weather forecast issued at 6am on Wednesday, the department said the rains would be unleashed by a low pressure area that covers the upper part of the Bay of Bengal, and the strong southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea.

It warned residents of Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi provinces to prepare for heavy downpour.

It added that strong waves were likely in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf with waves 2-3 metres high in the Andaman Sea.

Haven't found the English version yet so you'll have to use Google Translate. Basically what it says is it's going to be a mess everywhere for about the next 6-7 days. Pete

I find this quite incredible. After the previous flooding, not so long ago they cleared the drainage canals of weeds. A bit of heavy rain yesterday, and guess what? The weed was back and so was the flooding.

It must be a 'paint the Forth Road Bridge' job trying to keep the canals clear.
