Re: Groceries home delivery
Well, thanks for all the advice. The tuktuks want 200 for a 5 min ride (they even have a sign up with prices). I got them down to 150, but still feel like it's a bad deal. It's not objectively expensive, mind you, it's just the principle. In bkk I could go 15+ km (if traffic allows) in a proper taxi...

Groceries home delivery
Only having a scooter here makes it pretty hard to transport our week worth of groceries back to the house, so I find myself in the supermarket way too often. Does any grocery shop in hua hin offer (hopefully free) deliveries? If not, any ideas?

Re: Cheaper to book flights from UK or BKK?
If you buy online (with the appropriate research) then it doesn't make any difference. If you buy using an agent, I'd assume most Thai agents take a more modest cut than the average UK agent. However, there's usually no reason to go through an agent. Tip - if you don't mind a slightly longer flight ...

Re: Do farangs smell bad to Thai people?
There was a similar thread on thaivisa about 2 years back (not allowed to post links yet, google it). I think the conclusions were lack of hygiene and/or dairy rich diet, which makes farangs smell like sour milk.

m_right: If you like Garmin you can use it on your phone. All hardware navigators now come in the form of apps as well. My point wasn't to push Google maps (even though personally I never had any issues), it was to pull away from buying GPS-only hardware when you already own much better hardware.

kodansha: Sorry, my bad. I read "Sheraton" as "Hilton" for some reason. I have no idea about your best option for the Sheraton.

Re: Airport VIP Bus to and from Hua Hin
kodansha: You want the HH bus station stop. The last time I found myself at the HH bus station there were zero taxis (this is HH after all) and the tuktuks all wanted 100b non-negotiable to go less than 1KM. None of them budged even though I spoke Thai. I ended up in a songthaew that time, but this ...

Re: Driving from airport (Swampi) to Hua Hin
I believe the average smartphone today has more screen real-estate than the average GPS-only device. The GPS devices just have more plastic around them. Not to mention phablets and smaller tablets, which are really ideal. Couple that with one of those generic device car mounts you can attach to any ...

Best BBQ ribs
I love thai food but lately I've been dying for a good old US southern style rack of BBQ ribs. Anyone know a place that does them properly at reasonable prices?

Re: Driving from airport (Swampi) to Hua Hin
Agreed it's not hard, but I would never rent (or buy) a GPS. Anyone with a smartphone already has the ultimate GPS device, all you need is the right app. If you have a data plan on your phone (or don't mind getting one - they're dirt cheap) you can freely use Waze or Google maps navigation with turn...

Re: Parking fines in Hua Hin
I got fined 400b for parking half on red-white for literally 2 minutes. The BiB showed up just as I was starting to drive off and blocked me with his bike. In BKK I'd have gotten out of it with a smile and a 100b 'gift'. Not in HH  . By the way, he took my license and asked me to follow him to ...
