How can the Thai authorities allow a ship to be abandoned and lay anchored and unmanned for so long, the ship should surely have been towed to a secure location and regularly inspected to ensure safety.

Couldn't agree more, and not only in the USA

There is a magazine/newspaper shop on night market road as you head down to Phetkasem Road, they always have.

Personally I have no problem in banning someone who overstays, one can't expect to stay in a country illegally and get away with it.
