Re: Post Cataract Operation Care

BB I've just had my second procedure done mid-January. Basic advice is, keep water away from the eye. Nothing really said about alcohol or coffee, but I did abstain for a couple of days. The incision does take a while to heal, so any exertion is to be avoided. Included in the post-care notes (Thai l...

Re: Soi Fire Extinguishers

Given what Hua Hin used to be like (lots of wooden structures back in the day) it probably made a lot more sense. I think my first trip driving down from Bangkok must have been late 1992-3, I stayed at the Melia (now known as the Hilton, and the shophouses were mainly wood back then.

Re: Soi Fire Extinguishers

Interesting, only just noticed the blue label. Fairly messy to clean up dry powder, though quite effective for most fires. I think BCF/ Halon was being slowly phased out because of the CFC issue. Perhaps you can call the number on the front and ask them?

Re: Soi Fire Extinguishers

A red fire extinguisher is typically water-based, so only good for wood or paper fires. Cannot be used for oil based (like a kitchen fire) or electrical (fuse box short or similar) type of fire. The size also indicates it will be operable for a minute or so. My guess is the tessabahn is trying to sp...

Re: Smart phones, not so smart operators

While I do pander to online banking, I'm old school in many respects. I'll still use an ATM card at the ATM, pay by cash or credit card at the supermarket, and prefer not to scan random QR codes for online payments. Though in the past few days have seen two older people using their smartphone at the...

Re: Sinking Ferry - Koh Tao

Back in the very early '80s the ferry was also the only way to get to Samui. The high speed took about 2 hours and was passenger only; the slower one which could ferry vehicles took between 5-6 hours. No airport back then..

Re: Coin Counting Machines

The banks stopped this service a long time ago, or would discourage you from doing so by charging 200 baht (at the time) for the service. I used to have some coin-operated fuel dispensers and phone top-up machines some years back and would have about 5,000 baht in coins almost every month. I had to ...

Re: There's a gremlin in my aircon remote!

Off topic..
While on the subject of leds on remotes, for those of you who weld and have an auto darkening helmet, aiming the tv remote at the helmet sets off the auto darkening..
So now you know how to test that too ;)

Re: There's a gremlin in my aircon remote!

The part number on the remote is a good way to search. I actually found a tv remote with the same part number as the dead one at Amorn electronics in Bangkok. Not a large selection, but got what I wanted. As for the online ordered one, I have had a similar experience with an ac remote, some of the b...

Re: Water Pumps

Oh, and when the bearing is on its way out, it can be heard three houses over when in operation. Yes, it can be replaced, but finding a tech and getting him to come with the correct part is another matter. At least in Bangkok it is not as troublesome, just call the agent. Something you may just want...

Re: Water Pumps

Buksi, I have had loads of headaches with these types of pressure pumps. I note that you say, 'it doesn't sound quite right'. Seeing as the pressure switch is new, and that you have bled off all the air from the top portion, the only thing that will cause this unending operation is a crack in the ta...

Re: Problems with rats

Catch and release does not work with them. They spread disease, and breed faster than rabbits. They chewed up all the wiring in my electric organ so I'm quite po'ed. Get those 'snap' type traps they die immediately. Glue does get the younger ones but the old ones are wiser and stay away. Agreed, tho...

Re: Bangkok Dinner Cruise – Trip Report with photos/video

I did not want to go on the cruise myself, but it was a special occasion for some people with limited time in Bangkok. The thing that put me off was how chaotic the queues can become, even with the staff trying their best. I absolutely hate queue cutters and the 'tourists' have a way of adding addit...
