Re: Some Thais' perception of foreigners

I for one do not want the world to be 'just a great big melting pot' despite what some pretty ancient songwriters thought was cool. Agree totally, that would take the fun out of travelling. You've got to admit, though, this was a totally cool, totally non-politically correct song. But I like it: [u...

Some Thais' perception of foreigners

So, I'm doing the Culture of English Speaking Countries course again this year. This is one of my favourite courses to teach as it isn't Academic Writing or Basic English. My remit (as I see it) is to open the eyes of my students to life outside Thailand - not always easy. Anyway, we've just done th...

Re: Handwriting

I have to really think now when I write with a pen and have to slow down, as my mind is working faster than the pen. I learnt to touch-type at the age of 18, so am obviously much quicker on a keyboard than with a writing implement in my hand. My handwriting is a mixture of cursive and 6-year-old, wi...

Re: Understanding Thai society and behaviour

From my personal experience, the less wealth the person has, the nicer they are. Some of the rich people I know have all the nasty traits, egos as big as barrage ballons (which, when pricked, turn them into monsters). And they certainly have ME ME in spades.

Re: Immigration to introduce 90 day reporting online

Managed to complete all the online stuff for both of us a week ago. I've just checked and it's still 'pending'. :cuss: It's due on the 22nd, so I guess I'll keep checking it. Does anyone have any experience on how long it takes to approve? If they have the system set up correctly (and that's a massi...

Re: Snakes in the house and garden

What a handsome little fella he is, and how sensible of you to just let him be. I really think that snake identification should be added to the Thai curriculum at high school to save some of these wonderful creatures. I was having a conversation with some of my Thai colleagues the other day about sn...

For those of us who are in it, these lovely positive reports are very welcome. I think that generally people are becoming more comfortable with Cryptocurrencies.

Re: The Beer Thread

Must be just an ordering problem at our local Tescos then. It's really badly run - lots of empty shelves and racks, and a carpark full of trollies scattered everywhere. Re. the new price. Our local wholesale lady cut half the box away to remove the date of manufacture, and scratched the date from th...

Re: Photo trip report: Sai Yok Yai, Sangkhlaburi, Kanchanaburi

Sangkhlaburi is really quite special. Especially when you read up on the history of the area and the building of the original bridge. Last time we went there they hadn't finished repairing the bridge, so we walked on a kind of floating bamboo bridge which ran alongside it. There's an interesting wal...

Beer stocks - what's happening?

Does anyone know what's going on with beer stocks in Thailand. Our local Tesco Lotus had no cases of beer - just individual bottles. I put it down to their dreadful stock control. Went to Makro today - no Archa, no Chang. Just Leo (limited), Tiger, and Singha. There was also no gin.

Re: £1.7 Million Mansion for £25..... If you can do Crosswords!!

Now let me just work this out. I did all the brain-work = 75%. My twin acts as the submitter so I guess she could get 20%. That leaves 5% for you, but for all the faffing about transferring money, etc. and legal documents, why don't you just send me £100. OK? :thumb: VS BTW: I do actually have a twi...
