I sympathize with the man; if he has three Thai wives, 95 million baht might not be enough to go around!

WL, I sent myself a transfer from the Lloyds bank near to St. Pancras station whilst on my way back from England last Monday and they asked me for an IBAN number. I looked in my Bangkok bank passbook and the account number is described as being one. Maybe it depends on the bank, or how recently the ...

Bradders, for your information, a transfer from a UK bank to a Thai bank in Hua Hin costs about 20 pounds and takes three to five days. To make this happen easily you just need an IBAN number (International Bank Account Number) and a SWIFT code that identifies the bank. I’ve never had any problems...

BB, I can understand you not wanting to upset the authorities, but even if the immigration department did start checking on addresses, keep in mind that Thailand is expecting somewhere in the region of 15 million tourists this year. That means that they are getting an average of over 40,000 arrivals...

I notice that on the Thai immigration website they have a facility to E-mail the re-entry notification using the following form, but this is only valid if you are resident in the Bangkok area. If anyone has any connections with Hua Hin immigration perhaps they could suggest that they start a similar...

The toilets shown in the picture are a quantum leap in standards compared with the old facility! Actually the whole place looks a vast improvement.

Caller, I think I know the building site you mean; I’ve been there as well. If it’s the same one, that is where the approach to the bridge was still being built in May.

Yes, I mean using the ring road to go south of Bangkok, over the new bridge and up the eastern ring road to where it joins highway 1. I’ve tried using the western ring road but I’ve always found it blocked with trucks, so I’ve been using the expressway over the Rama IX and up past Don Muang. I...

I have to drive from Hua Hin to Issan a couple of times in the next month; has anyone been all the way from the South to the Saraburi road? Just curious how much quicker this is going to be compared with the Rama IX route.

I’ve spoken to one of the boffins from our radio workshops on the subject of Wi-fi range and he tells me that you can buy commercial boosters coupled with directional antennas that can get a signal at ranges in excess of 20km. The downside is that you need a clear path to the transmitter and they ...

Richard, maybe one of these brokers would handle international trades; they’re all registered in Thailand so the address should be no problem:http://www.set.or.th/en/education/brokers/list_p1.html

In a computer shop here in Europe I’ve seen a Wi-Fi booster for sale; basically a small box with an antenna on top. As the poster stated above you could mount something like this high up in your house and try and get a signal that way. Wi-Fi is a pretty high frequency radio signal, so it will go a...

It’s a silly idea anyway; just imagine the carnage on the expressways when Bangkok Thais, doing about 150 km/h in their Mercedes, suddenly hear the national anthem on the radio and slam the brakes on!

Never heard it in Hua Hin either, but get subjected to it in Issan as the house is very near the public speaker.
It’s nowhere near as bad as the annual village all-night Karaoke contest!
