Re: Have You Ever Been Targeted and Stitched Up By The Polic
By Sukhi Rd do you mean Sukhumvit. If so that is NOT a seady area--there are 2 seedy areas in close proximity--Cowboy and Nana Plaza, but on the whole it is a quite respectable very expensive street with many high end hotels and restaurants.

Re: Thailand fails the most at monogamy
As for the racist comment. Thirty of forty years ago it was more common in the African-american culture for girls to give birth Óut of Wedlock" which was a no -no for caucasians. (Any old guys remember friends they had who HAD to get married because their GF was pregnant) but now this is accept...

Re: pickled onions
Lots of variations, I partially cook the onions in the pikcling vinegar in the M wave, others pickle them raw they are all good, So if we've finished that one can we move on to another delicacy, chutney--Apple onion and raisin is my favorite. But Mango is also very good too.

Another potentially BIG expense will be school fees for your children. The International schools will probably improve as far as quality and choice is concerned, but the expense can be huge.

Re: pickled onions
1 Yes the small onions are available.
2 Its foolishly easy to do, the peeling of the onions is tearful and time consuming.
Vinegar and pickling spices readily available. Get the big jars at the Japanese shop in the basement of MV>

Re: Perks For High Post Count Posters
I have spoken to many many expats who live in HH, who have looked at the forum a couple of times and thought it had nothing to offer and never returned. One of their observations is that this is obviously a place for people with too much time on their hands and who take the forum far too seriously. ...

Re: Foreigners banned from surrogacy in Thailand
I understand that the major hospitals have to follow the directives from the Medical council. However much of this activity is done in clinics that are not supervised and may not be licensed. There have been several deaths during plastic surgery at similar clinics--as with many things in Thai it is ...

Re: Thailand's high-speed train project underway
Of course in China, they dont have to worry about environmental issues, whether they own the land, what the local govt or people want--If they decide to build a railway line--Just keep out of the way. If we have to knock your house down, too bad.

Well for most HH expats its all theoretical. If it happens it will take probably 10-20 years to implement.

Re: Retiring to Thailand early, do I have enough?
The dont make irreversible decisions is GOOD advice. Plan a 6- 12 month stay here , burn as few bridges as possible. I looked after a house for friends for 12 months until it sold at MUCH less than they had hoped. They had been here for 4-6 weeks a year for many years and were sure that they wanted ...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
I first went to Phuket 15 years ago. It was wonderful, inexpensive not too crowded, felt very safe. A small but very contained go-go area,
But when it went downhill, it fell of a cliff.
I have met several people in HH who sold up in p and moved to HH.

All the brave men and women who work immigration have a chest full of medals. I am not sure what they are for-- Extreme Valour in the face of 90 day reportees.
