Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Interesting. Could be an import, I suppose. Either way, not a good price-spec ratio :(. The best ratio can be found with the Chinese brands. Note that pretty much all brands are actually made (=assembled) in China, including Apple and Samsung, so going for a Chinese brand isn't necessarily a problem...

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
As far as I know, only the J700F (SD615, 1.5GB RAM version) is currently sold in Thailand. The J710F (SD617, 2/3GB RAM version) didn't hit the stores yet. Neither will be "fast" to use. They're both on the relatively sluggish SnapDragon 615/617. Their display is not even FHD, and with a wa...

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
When did you buy it? J7 goes for 7900 normally, and can be found even in MV for 5900 nowadays. Sounds like you got screwed by the techy shop lady.
Regardless, the J7 (or any other Samsung) doesn't have a good price-to-spec ratio.

Re: House rental nightmares
What's this about losing your deposit even if you're a perfect tenant? I've rented 9 different houses/condos in Hua Hin over the years, long term and short term. I've had good and bad landlords, but not once did anyone try to swindle me out of my deposit. It was always returned promptly, deducting a...

Re: Kanchanaburi border (Phu Nam Ron) for visa runs
In case anyone in need searches and stumbles across my unique problem ( dual citizenship, trying to switch passports at a land border ), it's impossible. I tried in Ranong. The Myanmar "officers" looked for the Thai departure stamp and when they failed to find one in the passport I present...

Re: Saturday Night - Deafening Music
You will need to get used to it unless you move, it is a prime location for loud concerts in Hua Hin.
The noise is coming from the empty lot north of the Hua Na market area, opposite the Motex gas station, and it's been used specifically for loud music events for some time now.

Re: Flight to Thailand bargains
Aye, in the other direction Qatar has a promotion from many UK cities now. Edinburgh-BKK is £285, Birmingham-BKK is £306 and so on. These price ranges work to other Asian destinations too - Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu at least. Prices have gone up slightly since it started ap...

Re: Pizza in Hua Hin
Pizza company is usually unreasonably priced, but every so often they have a buy one get one free promotion, which just about makes the price okay (around 500 for two large pizzas and delivery). They *are* a bit bland though. I think they're trying to make them farang friendly and overdoing it. I us...

Re: Flight to Thailand bargains
That's not a good price. There's currently a deal with Oman air to Zurich (BKK-ZRH) - $479 return. You can then do ZRH-LTN return with low-cost for around $100. That's 20.5K baht. You can also fly Norwegian (BKK-OSL or BKK-STO) and then hop on a low-cost from there, might be even cheaper depending o...

If you want an in-depth report, type "about:memory" in your address bar. Should work in both FF and Chrome.

Re: Caution if flying into Thailand from Vietnam
Interesting experience. Glad it worked out, and thanks for sharing. Perhaps something made the Thai airways guy suspicious of her. Was he the same guy that originally requested the return flight? That could explain it. A few pointers I follow and have not failed me yet: Prepare in advance. Provide p...

Re: Lastest browser speed results favour Firefox
I currently have 15 tabs open in FF, memory usage is less than 500MB (I have 16GB). I often have 30-40 tabs open and I haven't experienced any crashes in a very long time. Chrome is okay if you're into vanilla browsing. However, if you want to fully customize your experience (add-ons, user scripts, ...

Re: Kanchanaburi border (Phu Nam Ron) for visa runs
This is a bit of an unusual situation, so I'm not sure anyone really knows, but I'll give it a shot. I have two passports (from two different countries, obviously). I entered Thailand on one passport, and the visa on it is just about to expire. It so happens that I have a valid visa on the other pas...
