Re: Changes to Visa Exempt Entries after August 29th 2014

What do they expect to see in regards to the money - cash, or a print out of your balance (screenshot)? The hotel booking could be a issue too if they expect to see bookings covering the whole 30 day period. Our visa expires on 23rd August - how early can we apply for an extension? We have an apartm...

Re: Changes to Visa Exempt Entries after August 29th 2014

The requirement by countries for an onward ticket is a real pain for those of us with flexible plans. We haven't even decided where we are going next, possibly back to India - but I certainly wouldn't want to have bought a ticket to India before being confident that I will be able to get a visa, for...

Re: Changes to Visa Exempt Entries after August 29th 2014

But I thought the initial 30 day visa exempt period require the possession of an air ticket out of Thailand within the 30 days? If so I'm not sure the ability to extend is much use, given the usual cost of changing a flight date - a 60 day visa will be much cheaper. As far as I recall we paid THB110...

Re: Visa runs banned after Aug 12

But I do remember saying way back whenever that Thailand doesn't really believe that it needs tourism at all. It can of course survive on it's huge income from other business, such as rice.... An interesting point. On various TV channels in various countries I've seen an array of adverts enouraging...

Re: Coin-op laundry?

I can report the one east of the railway tracks does not have a drier, the ones to the west do (THB1 per minute). The washing machines are THB20 OR 30 depending on size, and only take THB10 coins.

Re: Visa runs banned after Aug 12

'No tourist should need to stay for more than 30 days'. Really? What does that say about a country? It kinda says that yer average tourist should be on a holiday!!!!!...if you want to stay longer then get the appropriate Visa from your home countries Thai Embassy/Consulate... Lots of people go on h...

Re: Visa runs banned after Aug 12

I'm confused - I knew they were stopping border runs (ie successive entries under the visa waiver rules), but are they stopping visa runs too (ie successive visas issued by a Thai embassy)? If so, any idea how long they expect people to stay outside Thailand before another visa is issued?

I walked past the site today - the hoardings are advertising early 2016 as the opening date.

Re: A few days near the Hospital

If you are looking for something cheaper, we stayed at the Palada guesthouse - I think their standard rate is $900 without breakfast for A/C (rooms also have TV and fridge, but no kettle). Clean with a comfortable bed, bathroom somewhat tatty, family run, quiet location at the southern end of Naresd...

Re: Power cuts

I'm near Soi 94 - I suppose it's possible that we have had <1 minute power cuts that we haven't noticed.

Re: Power cuts

I would say about as frequently as India. They seem to become more frequent as the weather worsens. Really? This was the first in 2 weeks so I'd assumed they weren't that common - guess we just hit a lucky streak. Oh well, better add candles to the shopping list! In India there seemed to be 3 kinds...

Power cuts

We got used to power cuts in India (at least one every 3 days, and 2 or 3 in a day wasn't unknown), but we had one here the other evening which caught us unprepared - it appeared to affect at least the block around us, not just our apartments. How often do they happen in Hua Hin?

Re: Items to bring when moving to Thailand

If anybody still needs a metal potato masher we got one in Makro last week. But we've failed to find cheap wooden spoons and spatulas! And sheets seem to be outrageously expensive compared to the UK.

I actually forgot about the booze ban and went for lunch on the beach. It seems I wasn't the only one who forgot, since beer was served without demur.

Local buses

I'm trying to find information about local buses but can find very little, and it's conflicting. I'm talking about buses to places around Hua Hin and down the coast, eg Khao Tao or Phetchaburi - basically places that could be day trips. Do such buses exist, and if so, from where do they leave please?
