Re: Hua Hin Airport to Operate International Flights by End 2017

Its relatively short distance from Bangkok -- about three hours' drive -- has been blamed for making commercial air transport to Hua Hin unpopular. It may be relatively short, but when you've just stepped off along haul international flight and you've still got that staring you in the face, it does...

Re: Poorest Thais to get income support benefits

:agree: and presumably they are all government owned/run services and utilities, so the money just moves around varies government departments, without actually leaving the overall government coffers!!

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat

But weather is better maybe! Thailand is so much cheaper than the places I lived before, I can't get over it yet. I wish I'd been here a few years ago when rates of exchange (Pound and Dollar) were better than now. When the rates were better it was cheap, but not so much now. When we bought our hou...

Re: "Minor" sports?

I like football, but the transfer fees and wages have spiraled out of control. The cheating and bad acting when injured is disgusting. Top level football is no longer a proper sport, it is a business. :agree: Absolutely no justification for the ridiculous salaries and sponsorship paid to some playe...

Re: El Toro Loco bar closed?

It is one of the listed Thai nicknames and not just made up. Comes under 'Leisure Activities' as opposed to animals, food, physical appearance etc. One of my wife's family is called Cartoon! No-one in the family knows why. A nickname is usually given by a grandparent for no real reason. Thanks Tel,...

Pardon my ignorance, but is there some reason this guy is called Cartoon, which is presumably a nickname? :?

Re: Pies in Hua Hin

Next door to Tesco Express opposite the 88 food market. I'm one of their best customers. Always cost me a few thousand when all I went in for was a beer!! 175 for the large steak and kidney puddings. Don't know how that compares with AP. They do have lots of stuff that I've not seen elsewhere. Also...

We've used Asian Tigers twice (once from Singapore to the UK and then from Singapore to Oman) and they were spot on both times :thumb:

Re: Can I buy strong bread flour here?

I haven't made bread in years, but when l did l didn't have a "bread maker" and honestly don't know what the advantage of having one might be. Like Dannie Boy we live in the ME (Bahrain in our case) and the quality of the bread can be variable, but we have found that Alosra (equivalent of ...

Re: Should I take a taxi to the airport early morning

At the end of the day, the OP has to find a service that he is happy to risk his family in. The cost, whether it is 900 Baht or 3,500 Baht is pretty superfluous when compared to the cost of the holiday/family's safety. Couldn't agree more, we have been using the same taxi service for our visits for...

Re: Should I take a taxi to the airport early morning

The OP has stated that he needs to "get to the airport for about 09:00 in the morning." he doesn't actually say his flight is at 9:00am, therefore he very likely doesn't need to leave HH at 3:00am, but around 5:30am - 6:00am, still very early if you have young dustbin lids in tow.

Re: Taxi to BKK Airport

we need to get to the airport for about 09:00 in the morning. What time should I be booking a taxi for in order to arrive at the airport by then? We did it a couple of weeks back; had a noon flight so needed to be there by 10:00am, left HH at 7:00am and was at swampy a tad after 10:00am. Mind you I...

Re: Pies in Hua Hin

You can't really see it on Google street view as the available view is from Feb. 2017 and the shop only opened this month, however if you look on their Farcebook page (and by the way I entirely agree that it is a nightmare and should be banned :cuss: ) you can just see, despite the bloody great bloc...
