Re: Hua Hin Tuk Tuk minimum prices

@Pleng: Was that from the queue within the front courtyard, or at streetside where one had pulled up?

Re: Warning to those using online booking agents for flights.

Presuming you paid for the tickets, both the original ones and the replacements, via credit card, have you contacted the card issuer to put a stop payment on the transactions? In my experience, credit card companies are very helpful in this and it puts pressure on the providers to work out a solutio...

Re: Something BIG going down at G Hotel?

I walked to Market Village from Soi 80 around that time. In the front courtyard of MV there was a stage with dignitaries on it and various uniformed folks (including nurses) standing in rows along the side. Northbound traffic was stopped and I'm pretty sure they were waiting for some dignitary (roya...

Re: Hua Hin - Suvarnabhumi Airport VIP bus crash

FWIW, on one of my several Hua Hin-to-Pattaya Bell Travel trips last month, our "VIP bus" rear-ended a truck on a Bangkok freeway. Low speed collision, no injuries, but the bus was damaged enough that it couldn't continue on the journey: http://www.wpcoe.com/images/bus.jpg We waited 40 min...

Re: Taking money out of Thailand

I had transferred (using Bangkok Bank ACH system via New York) B2.5m into Thailand last fall in anticipation of buying a condo. I ended up not buying a condo, and used some of that money as general living expenses. Last month I went to Bangkok Bank to transfer the remaining funds (about B2.3m) back ...

Yes, I noticed that "Pizza Pizza" looked like it was closed. Although not the cheapest, they did have decent pizza, or at least calzones which I had a few times.

Re: New Post Office in Hua Hin

Odd. The guy behind the counter wrote down the address with 77111 as the postal code. Luckily I've only given the address to a few people. Can you imagine the confusion created for every person he told the postal code was 77111? Will all their mail go the the airport post office?

Re: skin cancer

If it truly is skin cancer, like the "common" basal cell carcinoma, proper treatment (after a biopsy to confirm) is surgical removal. It is necessary to get the basal cell(s) at the bottom of the skin layer, and laser/nitrogen usually doesn't go that deep.

Re: Site specific ultra slowness with True?

While I never quite understood the reason why, using True some sites load much more quickly with proxy.trueinternet.co.th (port 8080) entered as a proxy server. On my preferred browser (Opera v.12) that setting can be easily enabled/disabled within the browser. The bad news is that using the True pr...

Re: Retirement visas for British married couple

While it is legal, acceptable and economical for one spouse to obtain a retirement extension and the other spouse to then have a dependent spouse extension, if you are easily able to both qualify for independent visas/extensions, there is one (unpleasant) factor to consider: In the case of the depen...

Re: Retirement visa using lump sum heads up.

When I was using the monthly income method for extension of stay I could handle Immigration on my own. Now that I'm using the bank deposit method (it's a lot cheaper) I have to have my wife come along to handle the many questions about my fixed deposit account at Kasikorn. The passbook can't be upd...

Re: Time/Distance from Hua Hin to Pattaya

Yesbb,I heard that recently. By the way if you ask when you are buying tickets how long it wil ltake, they give a pessimistic answer. Guess this prevents people from complaining. For instance I have taken the bus to swampy many times and it has taken anything fron 2h 55m to 3h 25m but they tell you...

Re: New Post Office in Hua Hin

When I finally went back (after two weeks) to get the key, I was *not* charged any deposit for the key. As noted above, when I paid the initial B500 with the application I was told to return after a week and pay a B300 deposit to get the key. Also, when I asked them to write down the correct/complet...
