Re: SlingBox

Hi Paul - Happy to hear you've been successful getting your Slingbox to work. For those like me who don't know how to play the access game, below are some notes that may be helpful: I had a lot of trouble over the summer with Slingbox.....they kept asking for my "provider", and if you aren...

Re: Lazy boy style recliner / Tv chair etc

Koncept has both LazyBoy and other manufacturers of recliners, both competitively priced. We bought two LazyBoys at 26K each a few months ago. Nearly half of what we paid for one in Bangkok ten years ago.

Exclusive Real Estate listings

We are placing a property on the market. I emailed my preferred vendor but they want an exclusive commitment by email before we even meet them.

I haven't listed a property here for some time but I don't recall exclusive listings were in vogue when I did.

Any advice from those in the know?

Re: buying a car

We went to Petchaburi and changed ours at the DMV because I purchased it in Bangkok. No letters needed....took an hour or so but just processing paperwork by the DMV folks. Go to DMV in Hua hin (maybe Pranburi but not sure) with your buyer. They will do the transfer for admin fees. Not much and cert...

Re: How is "your area" denial of service done, technically?

Thanks again Ralfredo. Luckily I'm headed to the U.S. (not UK) in a couple of months. I'll get together with my old employer and see what we can do.....Our computer tech helped me set up the SlingBox but we're both stumped on how to move forward. It will be a lot easier to work with some of the othe...

Re: How is "your area" denial of service done, technically?

Thanks Ralfredo.....I'm referring to what you said, yes, but I've been knocked off SlingBox, YouTubeTV and others, and I'm on a VPN, I thought they were supposed to protect my location but it doesn't seem that is true. In fact, if you go by IP address wouldn't they be assigned to the country where t...

Re: How is "your area" denial of service done, technically?

If IP address blocks are assigned by area how can you get around that with building your own machine? Where would you, or the manufacturer of some device get the IP number from then?

Re: How is "your area" denial of service done, technically?

Thanks Homer.....not the news I had hoped to hear. Can you tell us how OP addresses are assigned? Are they given out in number blocks like telephone numbers?

Re: How is "your area" denial of service done, technically?

I thought I did. My internet connection is now the USA......or have I missed something in how to use the VPN?

How is "your area" denial of service done, technically?

"Sorry, but YouTube TV is not available in your area just yet" I get this even though I have a VPN. I got the same thing when all of a sudden my SlingBox would no longer let me use it, and defying their website claims made me select geographical area I'm in.........but I'm not in one of th...

Re: rough idea of electricity costs ?

Our condo, 245 sq meters 3 br with approximately the same useage runs about 1,800 baht a month.
We had a home in Hua Hin similar size but with a pool. It ran about 3,500 a month.

Re: Thailand speed limits to be halved?

"Nothing else to add other than to repeat that speeding in itself is NOT dangerous." The Government, bless their little black hearts, tells us that driving at a speed over the posted or declared legal limit is "speeding", in the interest of public safety illegal, and by extension...

Re: Thailand speed limits to be halved?

You have completely missed the plot. The point is, the government keeps yapping about speed limits, driver education and other things they want to address, but they don't do a damned thing about monitoring traffic to reduce accidents and fatalities. What is the point of halving the speed limits when...

"You can make the speed limit whatever you like, but until there is meaningful enforcement on the roads and society as a whole starts to give a shit about anything like this, then the authorities can whistle for it", I quote Spitfire. *******************************************************...

Re: Hin Lek Fai Monkeys

We purchased a house in 2005 that sits directly under the viewpoint. We sold the house in 2007 but we never saw monkeys then at all, even on the few trips we took up to the viewpoint. The only place I've seen more than one monkey in town is on the old golf course by the railway station......I saw a ...
