Re: Most people still don't wear crash helmets

I can only thank Bristolian for some very sensible responses to my post. Some of the comments raised are my fault as I tried to keep the post to a reasonable size and others give room for thought. My own view is that if a discussion on safety regardless about bike/work/car etc causes one person to t...

Re: Most people still don't wear crash helmets

Good to see a mixed reaction and responses. In offering an alternative point of view I realise that my points were open to questioning and accept others opinions. One of the luxuries of being able to make ones own decisions. Thailand has a lot of laws like most countries and I have a somewhat jaded ...

Re: Most people still don't wear crash helmets

So far a lot of negative comments. As a motorcycist both here and in the UK I must confess to having ridden here for many years without a helmet and the main reason I wear one is to avoid being stopped. My own view is that on a trip out of town a helmet is a must but in town there are certain benefi...

Re: Reverse Osmosis

I have been using a domestic RO system in the UK for my tropical fishtank and have just told my son to stop using it as for every Litre it produces approximately 4 go down the drain. The tank is 400L so with 25% changes weekly it meant a huge waste of water and huge bill now a water meter has been f...

Re: In memory: 'Kiwi Duncan'...

Spent many a lunchtime or quiet afternoon with Duncan both at Kiwi Corner and at his house. We celebrated the birth of my son at Kiwi Corner as I was not allowed to be at the clinic so where else to go. Was not living here when he passed away and it is good that he is remembered here. A true charact...

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?

1989.
Had to have a look where I would be staying once I got married in 1990. Lived here until 2000 and now returned again to stay although visited frequently in the meantime. Still love it here.

Re: Renew driving Licence

Sounds good. Also noticed that I was be able to ride along the road past the railway station without being pulled over which used to happen in the past just because I was a foreigner. Kind of a let down after having gone to the trouble of getting the licence.

Re: Opening a Thai Bank Account

Success. Used Krung Thai and Market Village. No problems at all and they were very helpful. They took a copy of my wife's ID card, my driving licence and passport. Less than half an hour and all sorted with ATM and internet banking.

Re: Renew driving Licence

I have just got new motorcycle and driving licences at Pranburi without any problem (apart from having to return to Hua Hin to get the letters from immigration - my fault for not checking). They asked about my old licence but as it expired over ten years ago I got new licences. No problem and not to...

Re: Opening a Thai Bank Account

I have had an account at Kasikorn for over 15 years that has gone through long periods of inactivity and never been shut down. Have had lots of problems getting the internet reactivated after I forgot the password and had changed my Thai mobile number. Am going to try to open an account at another b...

Here ten, away 13 and now back again

When I first came to Hua Hin in 1990 it was a very different place. Frank had not started up Hua Hin Golf Tours and Soi Rai Noon was not surrounded by bars. Many a pleasant lunchtime was spent with Kiwi Duncan (RIP) and playing golf did not cost an arm and a leg (Springfield monthly membership was $...
