Re: Television Repair

An update, of sorts. The tv was collected from the shop as I was being quoted four thousand to fix it. Out came the screwdriver and a visual check of the capacitors did not indicate any problems. After a lengthy conversation with my nephew (my Thai is not bad but not up to technical explanations) it...

Cribbage Board

Without resorting to making my own cribbage board I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere locally that sells them. I am not sure if I have the patience to drill the 120 plus holes let alone in neat evenly spaced lines.

Singha truck spill in Hua Hin

On the way home from swampy with my son in law I remarked when seeing the usual overloaded pickup truck on its side blocking a lane that had it been a beer truck it might have been cleared a bit quicker. Ironically this has just happened to an articulated truck on the Pala U road out of town and I w...

Re: Trying to be safe in thailand - buying a pickup

I agree with Ginjaninja. Best value is a pickup and they are also practical. More expensive but along the came lines are the quasi SUV (Fortuner etc- pickup chassis with a full body) or something like the X Trail subject to personal needs and finances. Perhaps once you are comfortable in the traffic...

Re: H.H's new road-accident blackspot

Just had a woman reverse into my parked truck in a quiet soi with loads of room. What chance do you stand on a busy road like that with the appalling standard of drivers here. That whole section of road was in dire need of improvement before the latest changes and has only got worse.

Re: Farang deaths in Hua Hin

Just to show that I am not getting on a lonely pedestal, a couple of links that discuss the subject of cycle helmets (mods please erase if this is a violation of forum policy). http://www.whycycle.co.uk/cycling-advice/safety-and-security/cycling-helmets/ http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/brain-surgeon-the...

Re: Farang deaths in Hua Hin

Fortunately wearing a helmet when cycling is a choice whereas on a motorcycle it is mandatory (although as we all know subject to the latest BIB campaign). Cycle helmets do not offer the same protection and their open design I feel leaves the rider exposed to being caught on branches etc with the po...

Re: The 5 most British dishes

As a seafarer I am familiar with what is known as a Cheese Beano. Spam, baked beans, bacon and cheese on toast. Keeps well with the general category of heart attack on a plate which a lot of the dishes mentioned fit into.

Re: Television Repair

Unfortunately, while I am trusted to dismantle my bicycles, repair various items around the house, that trust does not extend to the provider of mindless entertainment. Wow betide her missing the latest installment that was previewed at the end of the last episode, is totally predictable and would m...

Re: The 5 most British dishes

The original article is obviously an promotional item for what they wanted you to buy. Absolutely no relation to what most people would call British dishes except Fish and Chips. Crisps are not a dish, just a snack and however many fancy flavours come and go it is the likes of cheese&onion or sa...

Re: Television Repair

Thanks for the offer but have already got her another tv. When the other one is repaired it will be kept as a spare for when the next failure happens either to mine or one of the family's tvs.

Re: Television Repair

I have put the tv into a shop along the klong road near the golf range. It looks like it will be a few days and had not saved me money as the wife made it clear that going without her daily dose of Lakorn would be as painful for her as me having to actually watch them. I will report back on how succ...

Television Repair

My tv takes a long time to start but once going is okay. I have checked on the net and it looks like it "just" needs some capacitors changing. An easy job for someone who can get the bits and solder them in but not one of my talents. Therefore I am looking for a place that will do this typ...

Re: Looking for a good bike

Have a look at the classifieds for the Hua Hin area online as the big cycling event coming up is likely to result in a few second hand hardly used bikes coming on the market in the new year. Maybe not so many with a frame size big enough but worth checking.
