Re: Watchmaker

As a watchmaker I would strongly advise NOT handing over any decent brand watch including a Rolly to anyone but an authorized service agent nowdays unless you are really confident your repairer is on top of their game. Rolex only supply genuine parts to authorized agents on exchange of the old parts...

Re: 2 killed, 10 hurt as elevated road collapses in Bangkok

I suspect that death number will be higher than the two already reported going on the video footage. Sadly these accidents are becoming more common on these projects. Makes me feel really uneasy traveling on roadways along side these structures nowdays. Wonder if anyone will take the blame for this ...

Re: Pilot refuses to land over unfastened seatbelts

Just before C19 hit we were waiting to depart on our regular Thai Airways afternoon flight from Perth to BKK. Saw a bunch of cleaners arrive to service the plane then leave the aircraft hastily looking pretty animated. Moments later a bunch of airport police exited from the plane followed by a cover...

Re: Is importing jewelry running business?

Hi Jackes, My early travels to Thailand in the 1970's were financed by buying cheap silver fashion jewellery in BKK and sending it back to Australia .Was a very good money spinner at the time. Later on I got into wholesaling top quality gold and silver body jewellery but things started to get a bit ...

Re: Hua Hin Then and Now Comparison

First visit 1975, came via train from BKK heading to Malaysia for a visa run. Stayed a couple days at a not too fancy Chinese hotel near the main markets which were the main focus of the village then. All around people were drying fish and squid on bamboo racks so things got a bit smelly at times. O...

Re: Thailand tourism situation

Was chatting to a recently retired Thai Airways engineer. He often hitched a ride down to his favourite destation Perth pre C19 on a freshly serviced plane. He sees a choppy future for Thai Airways now with the biggest challenge being a world wide shortage of qualified ground and air staff. The long...

Re: Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates

We arrived into Swampy few days back. Immigration B was chaotic with mobs of Indians filling in those immigration entry cards. We got sent down to A where there was a couple flights worth of folks waiting. A young attendant walked up to us and directed us up to the empty VIP area and we got thru in ...

Re: Hotels which allow outside guests to use pool, post Covid

Haven't been down to Sai Noi Beach for a while but there is a neat club resort there offering day guests use of the facilities including the pool , think we paid 200 Baht including a drink and nibbles.

Re: Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates

Thai Airways has continued to keep one employee on the books in Perth, and eventually they will return to running direct flights to BKK. But when? "not in the foreseeable future" I'm told. We managed to use a couple of post Covid Thai flights Perth-BKK before they redirected out of MELB an...

Re: Seiko in Hua Hin ?

Seiko used to be a great brand offering a well made product at a decent price. Sadly they have slipped in recent times. They do still make some awesome models such as the Spring Drive series if you want a full on mechanical watch at an equally awesome price. The lower spec 6R(XX) and 4R(XX) caliber m...

Re: Washing fruit/vegetables

Once the fruit is peeled, all the toxins on the outside are gone. I don't know of anyone getting ill from eating peeled fruit. Both the Mrs and I had a desperate bout of 'the runs' after eating peeled fruit off one of those street trolley vendors few years back in BKK. Been ever so wary of peeled f...

Re: Washing fruit/vegetables

I use some kind of cleaning agent (eg Vegga Wash)
All the test results I've ever come across on these commercial washes says they do little if anything at all to clean up fruit and veg and are a waste of money.

Re: Buying a new smart TV

We have a couple of the Sony XR series tvs where the screens themselves are part of the sound system, especially the bass
The sales people promised us we needn't worry about forking out extra money on sound bars and they were pretty much right there, must admit the sound is pretty damn good.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

We departed Swampy last week arriving at check in 2.5 hours prior to our flight. 1.25 hours in and we started worrying as we still had two lines ahead of us to go with only 3 check in counters open. Oddly up popped an attendant calling out only our flight number, she pulled us down to a special coun...

Re: THAI announces winter flight schedule 2022-23

If you were to travel with Thai Airways from Perth to BKK via Sydney early next month tickets cost around the AUD $2330 mark ONE WAY and 21 hours traveling time as opposed to 6.5 hours now direct. The alternative Singapore Airlines cost with a stop over in Singapore, total traveling time of 8 hours,...
