Re: Immigration to introduce 90 day reporting online
Just done my final 90 day reporting on line. Got confirmation of approval via email in about an hour. Easy peasy. :D VS Final! Ah, good luck ahead VS. :) So it's working again, for a while maybe.... Today I did two 90 day reports and one single re-entry stamp in around 15 minutes at Bluport. I didn...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization
Another problem with Colonialism is that countries did not send out their best and brightest to the colonies. Wealthy families who had a not-so-bright son could ship him off to the colonies--out of sight, out of mind. Actually a posting to India was a plum position, where decent and educated men co...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization
In reality, there really isn't an 'pros' for colonization, unless you are the invading force. Difficult to have a discussion anyway when eurotrash and his shouty adversaries are polluting the thread. Mods seem happy with it though. OK you are entitled to your opinion, and to ignore the advances tha...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization
British colonization was often privatized. India, for instance, was "colonized" by the East India Company. It was given the"franchise" to exploit India. It had its own army but the object was not military or an attempt to civilize, it was ALL business. It established transportat...

Re: Hua Hin Supermarkets
I think the comment about showing your passport was based upon initial registration,,,,,,,,,,,and not something you have to do when enter Makro after you are issued your little red card. Correct, and it seems that different Makros are less or more strict. I also was issued a bit of paper with the c...

Re: Hua Hin Supermarkets
I have the Makro card but I'm not sure what Nereus means by a 'day card', it's free and it lasts for a year or forever (not sure, I don't have it in front of me). They scan it each time you go to the till. Show your passport to the front counter when you enter and they'll process it.

Re: Bat Cave near Cha Am
Went this evening. Easy to find the place with the coordinates given in this thread. Stunning to see so many bats streaming out of the cave for 10-15 minutes. and making patterns flying around in the sky. Is it really 2 million? I can believe it. I'd gone there impressed with the idea that the owner...

Re: Yingluck gets 10-year visa from UK
Yes it restricts the number of days that can be spent outside the country, not inside it!
That's why I think the BBC Thailand article has it wrong.
Anyway, the suspicion that some here had a few months ago, that the UK would grant her a visa has been proven correct.

Re: Yingluck gets 10-year visa from UK
Visas usually expire if you don't spend long enough in the country. The report says she can't stay in the UK for longer than 6 months (at a, stretch I imagine). Maybe it's an unusual visa.

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization
Haha. Well, they do have quite a nice opera house. Treatment of wrongdoers was brutal in all countries. Better in Britain than say in Spain though. Anywhere though you'd get hanging for stealing an apple. Or years sitting in a rat infested prison hulk in the River Thames or Portsmouth. Transportatio...

Is this right? I would have thought her visa would expire if she was OUTSIDE the UK for more than 6 months.

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization
Perhaps an Aussie could comment on Oz and its convict past. I believe that it is now thought that the importance of its convict influence has been overstated. At the time that the last convict ship arrived in Aus the population was about a million. The total number of convicts imported was 168,000 ...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization
There's a difference between trading partner help, and forced colonization of the past. Forcing a signed treaty with a 'man of war' parked a the dock is anything but fair trading. Why the 'empires' had been revolted against and thrown out. Now things such as the 'CommonWealth' are nothing more than...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization
According to one Roman account, Britain was "The home of men who are complete savages who live a miserable existence because of the cold"! Hmm, so wots changed then? :rasta: The only way they could colonize Australia was by sending out the people they used to hang. Yep it wasn't meant to ...
