It's the tall skinny shop on the left, not the Worakul Chulee Clinic with the long green canopy on the right, correct? :)

Re: Why do many expats not bother to learn to read?

When learning Thai, as new language, you obviously have to use it, quite a bit, or it's not going to stick. Picking to live in HH, is a bit counter to that, unless forcing yourself to learning, script and conversational, as it simply isn't needed here, HH, or most tourist areas. If just an occasion...

Re: New Banknotes Launched April 2018

New bank notes and start of a new era. I hope in a good way, though. Unless I've been asleep I've yet to see the new king place his first marker on his reign by announcing any philanthropic campaigns to follow in the footsteps of his father. He should get the motor running, he has big shoes to fill ...

Re: Arthritis Hand Tools

Me too, just saw this. I have the same problem and it gets resolved quickly with a thin, circular piece of round rubber type material about 5 1/2 inches in diameter. She made he own out of the stuff you put under rugs to keep them in place. Yes that's right, just put it over the lid and use it to h...

Re: Why do many expats not bother to learn to read?

I think that Thailand was colonized by Thais and therein lies the problem. Yes I said in another thread somewhere if the British had been here there would have been a money-making canal 200 years ago, a better legal system (not saying no corruption - look at India), and a more outward looking socie...

Treatment for arthritis/rheumatoid arthritis in HH?

I have a long-term painful thumb joint and would like to get it diagnosed and possibly some injection or something on an irregular basis to ease it. Might be cheaper than popping Voltaren tablets every day, which seem to have lessening effect anyway (sorry but I love to self-medicate). Does anyone h...

Thank for the advice.

When I saw the word herb I admit I was thinking it wasn't vitamins you were buying. :)

I realise this is an old thread but it's worth saying, a lot of people don't know to take a butter knife, stick it in between the jar and the lid and give the knife a small twist - breaks the air seal.

Re: Prescription glasses

I made a mistake buying glasses at a shop on the 2nd floor of Market Village to correct near sight. After they performed their own eye test, they got the prescription wrong twice; they did replace the lenses each time at no cost to me, so all good in the end. However although the cost was good, the ...

Re: Why do many expats not bother to learn to read?

I struggled because of the tones. My teacher felt I just didn't have the ability to reach the 'top two'. I had lessons for one year in Korat before pretty much giving up. I can't even say Korat in a way that most Thais seem to understand and it seems that Thai's themselves pronounce this in many di...

Yep and they don't call France the Land of Smiles. People obviously go for the scowls, the snails and the Tour d'Eiffel. :)

Re: Why do many expats not bother to learn to read?

I sincerely don't believe there is such a thing as "language ability", there is only trying and giving up. As far as my experience goes, I would say you're wrong. I used to teach languages and I sometimes had students who tried and tried, did extra study on their own, persevered and even ...
