Desiccant sachets for food?
I'm having to fly back to the UK quite a bit right now, and making the most of the generous 70 kilos baggage allowance I might as well pad out my cases with biscuits and shedloads of other stuff from Blighty that I can’t get here (or's silly money). So I'm trying to find food-safe desiccant sachets ...

Re: The Digital Surgery
Just wanted to add this - not sure if it’s bonkers advice or if it might actually work, but I’ll report back here with the result if/when I need to try it: Because I don’t print frequently, I abandoned my old printer with its (for me) false-economy bulk ink supply and this week I bought a new printe...

It’s been putting on a stunning show tonight hasn’t it? I’m actually going to utter that overused word - 'awesome!'. And good to hear it might bring us good luck too

Re: Where can I get spare water tank lids?
Just for closure I’d like to say thanks all, especially BlueSky, and to StevePIraq for the link - hoping to get a reply to my email, and if no joy will cobble something together following the other suggestions.

Re: Where can I get spare water tank lids?
Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. Following Bluesky's suggestion I’ve been to Big Kiang today but as they don’t stock my ('Magma' brand) tanks they 'Cannot!'' order the lids for them, so I'll measure up and see if any of the ones they can get would work - even if not a perfect fit, with som...

Where can I get spare water tank lids?
Some fiend has made off with the tops of my two water tanks, grrrr. I tried buying replacements in Global, HomePro and Thaiwatsadu but the staff all looked at me as if I was I was asking them for a wrap of smack (I can’t believe they don't stock spare lids but there you go) and I’ve also enquired at...

Re: Iceland in Villa Market
To be fair, I don’t think anyone would claim that Iceland products are high-end gourmet fare. Iceland sells a huge variety of frozen foods remarkably cheaply in the UK (e.g. its breaded fish cost about a quarter there of what MV charges here) so it appeals to families with limited time and budgets (...

Blacky, the hotel told me yesterday that the Sky Bar's scheduled to be open for business on the 24th.
I too am looking forward to a different venue for the occasional scenic slurp, and a convenient location for those of us living south of the town.

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?
During the recent rains I was dismayed but not surprised to observe that many drivers didn’t decrease their speed, and another thing I don’t get is those drivers who wait until there’s virtually no visibility then reluctantly put their wipers on intermittent. Our local taxi driver does this and we c...

Re: Death of a Pet
I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope your family, which of course includes Holly, will take comfort in thinking back of all the great times you've had together and those memories will keep you strong. He loved you and you loved him, and you gave him a lovely life. Job done. And now I'm feeling a li...

Re: Pies in Hua Hin
I'm sure I'd like it but at the end of the day it looks nowhere near a Melton Mowbray, which is what HarryVardon's after. Michaelaway - as you can tell. I can't articulate and probably used the wrong word when I said slate-y, but I meant that almost granular (gritty?) feel in the mouth that you get ...

Re: Pies in Hua Hin
That looks very acceptable and I'd happily eat it right now but, being picky, I wouldn't say it qualifies as a MM - the pastry doesn't look dark, crunchy, crusty or slatey enough and it's not closely hugging a dense pork and aspic filling. Sorry, I know I sound like a complete arse and I'm being far...

Re: Pies in Hua Hin
I hear you HV, and sorry I can't recommend a place here. I ended up making my own in Hong Kong (until M&S started flying them in twice a week - joy!) and I'm going to have to start doing it again here. It's laborious but enormously satisfying, and the raw ingredients are ubiquitous and cheap: tr...
