Re: Local TV via aerial transmission - still available?

Just a final report back, for the benefit of anyone else who might need to know. I went to Big Kiang, half way between Hua Hin and Cha-am and the staff member was really knowledgeable. She informed me that there are two principle types of receiver, namely (1) a receiver box only suitable for a satel...

Re: Local TV via aerial transmission - still available?

Just to be clear, this TV requirement is not for me personally, it's for a Thai helper at the house. It doesn't matter what limited range of channels it can receive, the more mindless and least educated TV content the better, I would think!

Okay, thanks, in your experience the existing antenna didn't work for digital, then? So that suggests I perhaps should not bother trying to use the existing antenna.

Re: Local TV via aerial transmission - still available?

The cable ends are fitted with standard connector fittings that screw onto the antenna and the box. From what I could see of the receiver boxes in Taiwatsadu store yesterday, the antenna connection is a push-on type (see similar device pictured here), rather than screw-type, although I have seen sc...

Thanks very much. When you say antenna, are we able to use that which we already have, such as in this picture, in conjunction with the DVB-T2 that you mention?

Re: Local TV via aerial transmission - still available?

Thank you very much indeed Hin, that's useful. I've since found a Wikipedia article on Thai Television, that seems to suggest several TV channels ended their analogue transmissions during June and July, so it appears my helper is correct. There is actually an unused satellite dish already on the adj...

Local TV via aerial transmission - still available?

Can anyone please confirm if Thai TV transmission is still possible using a conventional TV aerial? I have someone who looks after my home who has informed me that the TV transmission is no longer available via an aerial and that consequently a satellite dish is now needed to receive TV. However, I ...

Re: Analysis of the expat and foreign-buyer property market now

It's mostly as PeteC said, "Perhaps they have one big limited company loaded with hundreds of Chinese shareholders." Interesting, I can certainly see that the economy of scale would make that worthwhile and to charge owners a periodic fee to operate it, thereby making the business appear ...

Absolutely. Good advice for any buyer.

The OP may like to consider a second hand property, as there are plenty it seems and many willing to give a far better deal than developers.

Re: Analysis of the expat and foreign-buyer property market now

My wife takes the credit, I was not convinced, as the remaining 25% with the garden and swimming pool cost as much as the purchase price, but in the end, she made a healthy profit. Good to hear that you have an enterprising partner. How are the majority of these Chinese buyers structuring their lan...

Re: Discount for new property projects

Is there such a thing as a professionally certified agent???? No, there doesn't appear to be a professional certification here, indeed. But in many other countries there's a professional body, to which we'd expect them to associated individually. I think as the OP has added, the agents here appear ...

Re: Car Breakers?

There is what appears to be a pick-up truck breaker's yard I've seen recently at Cha-am, on the left side heading from Cha-am to Tha Yang, and it's between the Pan Sook 'farm' and the Shell gas station - see attached picture. In the front there are rows of pick-up truck load areas, turned onto their...
