Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

I have a very wise friend. American, taught law for several years at a Thai University. Married into a very Hi-So Thai family and now just manages their money. Some years ago after some political upheaval, I asked him "What is going to happen next?" He said, "Do you want to get a rep...

Re: Snakes in the house and garden

HaHa, I'm not that brave. I love to see them, but keep my distance. Mrs BB is the snake tong expert  Our problem is getting to the snakes before our dogs. At our place, the problem is getting to the snakes before the in-laws do, and of course our chickens always give the game away. Not many, ...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand

My MIL and FIL who live here with me keep all plastic waste to sell, along with things such as glass, steel, aluminium; cardboard and etc. Wet waste is virtually nonexistent at our place because our army of chickens and ducks swoop in on just about any wet waste which it thrown out in the garden. It...

Re: Snakes in the house and garden

I must admit, I'm somewhat surprised by the comments claiming that Thais think all snakes are venomous. It is certainly not what I have experience here during the past 16 or 17 years I have been here. Many Thais, or at least those from rural areas, are actually quite good at identifying snakes, and ...

Re: Place for a really good burger

I have just been to Indulge restaurant on Soi 94 for a Sunday Roast (very good) and was looking at the menu there. They have an extremely varied selection of burgers (more than 10 varieties) including crocadile, venison & wild boar. I will have to visit some time and hopefully I won't be put of...

Re: Coming on 12 Dec - Need Advice

Unless the law has recently changed, you will be given a 30-day visa exempt stamp at the airport on arrival. After 30 days you will then need to leave and then re-enter in order to get another 30 days. Alternatively, you can apply for a tourist visa in the UK if you intend staying here for a longer ...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

I really hope the country's tourism industry does as is hoped for, but the authorities really need to take a good look at themselves. It was only a short while ago that we read headlines about an immigration official announcing that a certain "group" of people shouldn't come here. Perhaps ...

Re: Boy, 12, skipping classes after being whipped by teacher

Much as I agree with the sentiment, taking your own revenge can be counter productive. I can't find it now but what you're suggesting actually happened a couple of years ago. The parent was arrested, charged and had to pay compensation to the teacher. The teacher carried on teaching! Believe me, as...

Re: Boy, 12, skipping classes after being whipped by teacher

Well, I will publicly challenge any teacher here to abuse one of my kids in a way this teacher has. No, I will most definitely NOT go to the police; and no, I will NOT report him either. However, I have been gifted with a very creative imagination, and revenge will be so sweet.  :...

Re: Cancer - no longer the bogeyman?

Hi DM Nice to hear that you are doing alright. :D Also, thanks for the reply. I was actually asking on behalf of another Austrian guy I know who needs to undergo such treatment, and was sort of hoping he could have it done here in Hua-Hin. He was diagnosed with a bladder tumor at Bangkok Hospital, a...

Re: Cancer - no longer the bogeyman?

Sorry people, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but do any of you know if radiation treatment and chemotherapy are available at any of the hospitals in Hua-Hin? Alternatively, would it be possible to receive such treatment in Bangkok while still living in Hua-Hin? BTW, best of luck to you and hope...

Re: Is dog repellent spray for sale in Thailand, can it be carried in checked luggage?

I honestly don't understand what the problem is. I've fended up to 10 dogs off regularly with torchlight. I used to walk the beach every night for about 5 years, and never failed to stop any aggression with a torch (and walking 3 dogs, there was a lot of territorial aggression shown towards my dogs...

Re: Is dog repellent spray for sale in Thailand, can it be carried in checked luggage?

As stated above, your best bet is to carry a light weight walking stick. I’ve been doing that for 6 years now, including regular walks on the beach with my dogs, and have never had a problem. Whenever a potential confrontation arises, all it takes is just showing the stick and the aggressors know e...

Re: Extending 30 day visa exempt stamp

Alternatively, fly from Bangkok to Penang with Air Asia and book a room for one or two nights. Visa applications must be submitted before 14h00 (I think) and can be collected the following afternoon at around 15h00. While you are in Penang, enjoy some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted, and ...
