Re: Best of the Rest of the World
Happy Easter everyone. :D Pete  1+2 = 3 Until a child tells you what they are thinking, we can't even begin to imagine how their mind is working.... Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything...tutors, mentors, flash cards, special learning centers. In shor...

Re: Hua Hin, the next Pattaya?
The above is a ruse per some other postings we had on here. It's the name of a new drink, but I can see where the bar would be full until they found out the truth. Pete

Re: Stone Gardens vs Grass Gardens
That's good. My place was all grass when we moved in, and now it's about half grass. All around the house are stone gardens or paving bricks as grass simply wouldn't grow as shade trees got bigger. You still need to weed though as things will sprout up anywhere and everywhere, even in the smallest o...

Re: Hua Hin, the next Pattaya?
IMO the bar and girl business grows with demand, just like anything else. Not exact figures but if Pattaya has about 1,500 bars with about 40,000 resident expats and 1 million + foreign tourists per year.......and Hua Hin has lets say 100 bars with 4,000 resident expats and 150,000 foreign tourists ...

Resistant malaria spreads rapidly to Thai-Myanmar border
To be honest, I didn't know the problem in western Cambodia was that bad. Kind of puts a damper on any thoughts about going to Ankor Wat. Also, has it not stayed in heartland Thailand since it crossed 800 KM through Thailand on it's way to the Burma border? Confusing. Perhaps it is indeed here but w...

Re: What are your views on the 2nd hand car market?
More thought on this. We had another thread that rightfully said that Thais take very good care of cars and appreciate their importance. I would think the stats on car thefts here is very low, and I only hear about the gangs that take cars over the border in a mafia type organized fashion, not your ...

Re: What are your views on the 2nd hand car market?
So many possible answers. I think the most sound, for the moment, is to remember that if they weren't selling the cars, they wouldn't be priced that way....what the market will bear. There is a big segment of the population who will never be able to afford to pay cash for a new car, and can't qualif...

Re: Property firms, foreigners 'dodging buildings tax'
This is another one of those stories where there seems to be a hidden jab and punch at foreigners yet again. "......yesterday said the local body was losing large amounts of revenue as a result of dishonest real estate developers who enter into transactions with foreigners....." What does ...

Vietnam sees surge in childhood virus: Red Cross
If it's on the rise there, it will be here also come the rainy season. I went through this with my daughter and her school in 2010. Although it manifests itself in a mild form with most kids, some in her school were hospitalized with severe cases. Her school was closed on a Friday and totally disinf...

Budgets cut to buy computer tablets
If this doesn't make you angry, it should IMO. I would love to see which much needed programs they cut to make this gimmick campaign look like it's a success, but they'll never publish it. I'm waiting for reports of these tablets turning up by the thousands in pawn shops. Perhaps too cynical, and I'...

I just noticed the huge amount of islands almost directly west of the Hua Hin area. I think in years to come there will be access to them and what a treat if they build some kind of connecting corridor from Thailand, perhaps close to the Hua Hin area. Pete

Re: Wot, no tonic?
Seems the next disruption to our gin & tonic may be the absence of limes, or a price increase. Never a day passes here without monumental problems and challenges. Pete  http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/crimes/286279/man-claims-b300000-of-limes-stolen Man claims B300,000 of limes st...
