Good post Mr Plum and dtaai-maai is on a good train of thought there aswell, agree with all that have said respect etc has to be earned. I posted this from watching the locals reactions to many different 'types' of farangs, in different places, from their appearance and other variables that I mentio...

Fair point ozuncle , won't disagree with that. But it's starting to bite here, big, for everyone, not just the locals. Suppose we are the last to notice as we are always pulling out high value currencies from the ATM. If we are noticing it here then it must be going south, even in LOS. You can see i...

About right SM67 , when I bought my pick up just over two years ago, it cost about 1800-2000 baht to fill it up from dry. Now it costs about 3000. Soon I will be thinking of turning off the air-con if it keeps going up. I remember when first got here it was about 9-10 baht a liter, only 5-6 years ag...

Had to post this relpy, couldn't wait till it's over. Big Boy , Randy Cornhole and Super Joe , not too far off, agree. Roel , good point, suppose the worst that can happen is you lose 2 million baht(house and car), unless you've been really niave and this doesn't apply to everyone, in the west it wo...

Where do we fit in?

OK everyone, would like to ask a simple question, but maybe the answer is not so simple. We all know that in Thailand that there is a strict hierarcy for the locals and that when they speak to each other, they know exactly where they are in the social order relating to each other within a couple of ...

Democracy vs Plutocracy

Ok everyone, leading on from the thread on "An observation in LOS", and considering the great posts that were offered, I would like to pose another question to all. Do we live here in a Democracy or Plutocracy? Plutocracy- A country that is run by the rich. Source- The Cambridge Advanced L...

It's about time this started, sure everyone has felt the pinch, considering it was 74-76 about 18 months or so ago. Never quite understood why these exotic currencies gain so much ground over the main western currencies(or the western ones lose so much ground), doesn't make any sense to me. The baht...

Think you're about right buksi, there are some interesting times ahead for Thailand. The dark clouds are gathering, both economically and politically and the old saying that 'The apethy party has won' may well be applicable here in the not so distant future. By the way, must say, great posts everyone.

An Observation in LOS

This is sort of news related but also opinion about LOS, so not totally sure where this belongs, so if you Mods want to move it, then fair play. Recently I have traveled to a few different parts of Thailand, north, south, northeast, and an observation occurred to me, which is; Does anyone outside Ba...

Think you've got most of them there Kendo . This gender confusion that many young men here seem to be afflicted by, and also the 'Toms', really is quite disturbing. Agree with VS that it's almost encouraged here to a silly extent, they are always on TV playing the freaky side-kick. They try very har...

Yeah, sorry to here that Mr T, does sound like they knew a bit too much about when, where and how to do the job, could almost call that 'surgical burglary'. It's a bit cheesey snatching your safe out the house aswell, that would definately piss me off. I rent a house from a local MIB Major in the no...

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Some interesting comments here, so will chuk mine in. The girl in the soap opera should have something negative happen to her to prove that being bad is destructive to her and others, but it think that this is not the correct kind of justice as it sends the wrong messa...

It's strange that you can stay indefinitley in Thailand with a 90 day non-O and just leave the country, spend 8000 baht on your trip, get a new one and get asked no questions and be good for another 90 days, but if you want to do it properly and stay for a year, then you get all this sh.t. Not quite...

Good points above. Everyone better get used to it, prices are up and will continue to go up. The days of 25 baht a liter of petrol (which were only at the end of last year) are gone for good. The price of diesel here goes up almost everyday, think it's about 41.71 at the time of this post. The probl...
