Re: Songkran to become 1 month festival
Songkran confusion has tourism promoters red-faced The sight of a bewildered Chinese tourist in full Songkran regalia — floral shirt and water gun — has put the government on the defensive, as it seeks to clarify that the main water-splashing festival will take place for three days and not three we...

Re: Travel: Asia & Further Afield
Been watching a show called 'Travel Man: 48 Hours in...' with Richard Ayoade (who is a bit of a Marmite character). He does short breaks in cities within a couple of hours flight of the UK, plenty of ideas there that I'd never thought of and places I now want to visit. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4...

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Yep, maybe the fast chargers are better for the batteries. I've also got into the habit of not letting it drop below 20% and charging to 90%, which may have also prolonged its life. Either way, the Xiaomi batteries are pretty solid. Looked at the X6 Pro, but its more than I want to spend on a phone ...

Re: Thailand News Summary
The 'Thailand news summary' thread should be renamed to the 'dodgy Thai police' thread ... A police lieutenant with the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) in Nonthaburi province has been arrested on charges of assembling air rifles and selling them online. The officer, identified only as Pol Lt...

Re: Thai police require stricter foreigner screening and monthly case reports
The media (and politicians) are very good a stirring up nationalism, which is essentially what this is all about. Thais shooting or kicking the crap out of each other every day doesn't instill the same reaction as 'nasty aliens'. I'm just happy this has all been limited to Phuket and the islands so ...

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Whilst on the subject of phones ... Three years is my benchmark for keeping a phone but they sometimes clap out before then (the Samsungs I have had did anyway). Have currently had the Xiaomi POCO X3 NFC for just over three years. It is still going strong, the camera is superb, and the battery (usua...

Re: Phone Stalls, Top Floor Market Village
I don't completely agree with this. Especially for phones. When Samsung for example, releases their new phones the price in MV is more or less the same as all over Thailand. As a matter of fact Samsung on Lazada is more often more expensive than other shops. For phones which has been a while in the...

Glad I won't be around for this ... Mercury could hit 50C by 2084 Thailand could see temperatures hit 50C in the next 60 years, with the number of days where the mercury climbs above 40C rising from nine to 75 each year, a leading climate scholar said on Wednesday. Assoc Prof Seree Supratid, directo...

Re: Phone Stalls, Top Floor Market Village
MV is full of tourists so I suspect the phone stalls buy stuff on Laz, then hike the prices for unsuspecting farangs who wouldn't be ordering online if they didn't live here. We've walked away from them many times when quoted something silly for something that costs a fraction of the price online. E...

Re: Thailand fuel/pump prices
Is that all? I thought it would have been more. 34 is still very acceptable IMHO. 30 to 34 is a 13% increase so you can expect the price of everything that needs to be transported by truck/bus/pickup to be hiked by more than that to cover the rise in fuel costs - that was all over the Thai news yes...

If fuel prices go up ... everything goes up. And these imbeciles are still claiming there is negative inflation in Thailand.

Its just general food and household supplies, possibly a bit of cheese and some meat, definitely fish, lots of pak, dairy, coffee/tea, and usually pet food. If you want to add a bottle of wine or two, that bill will surge. Our monthly grocery/household expenditure here (for a family, not an individu...
