Has anyone managed to register a non-Thai mobile phone to receive SMS from their Thai bank? SCB tells me the notification number must be to a Thai mobile. Is this true for all Thai banks?

After many years of renewing my retirement visa but never spending more than 5 continuous weeks in Thailand I'm thinking of not renewing it.
