We drove a boat across the Gulf a couple of weeks ago. From Pattaya to Hua Hin is approx. 106 km or 57 nautical miles, so at an average of 20 knots it would take around 3 hours, always depending on the sea conditions, of course. Good luck to the Scandinavian gentlemen, but rather their money than mi...

Got my 2 licences (car & motorbike) about 3 months ago in Pranburi for the first time. I presented them with 3 different European driver's licences, i.e. German, Irish and British, as the basis for issuing the Thai one. They rejected the German and Irish licences because they contained words oth...

Hi MichaelD The fishing isn't the best round here inshore, but if you do know some of the spots you can be lucky some days and catch 2-3 kg sweetlips and smaller snapper/seabass/grouper plus silagos (which barbecue really well). As far as boats are concerned, there are smaller fishing boats (without...

In case you haven't already tried it:
My older laptop was playing up like that - a friend cleaned the DVD drive head and, hey presto, it was fine again!

Funnily enough, I was driving up the back road from HH to Elephant Village yesterday and passed a very new looking Jehova's Witnesses hall - sign of the times??!

I had my passport ID page copied onto a laminated card (credit card size), with the visa details copied onto the other side.

Very easy to carry in your wallet and so far accepted wherever I've had need to present it.

Hi Dawn This morning, I was asked to translate the results of a forum on the problems/solutions concerning stray dogs in the European Union (seems to be a particular problem in the new Eastern European Member States). If you go along the railway line coming from the station, there's an electrical appliance store on the right corner just before you turn left over the railway line to go to G supermarket. They sell white or multicoloured 10 m lengths of fairy lights, including the waterproof version enclosed in a pl...

Hi Linda I'm afraid you won't see the dolphins on the eco river trip - but there is other wonderful wildlife there - beautiful birds (over 30 species at the last count) and 3 metre long monitor lizards. On our sea cruise down to Monkey Island/Kao Sam Roi Yod National Park, there's about a 50/50 chan...

Hi Archimed

I think I know a place that would suit your needs, belongs to a friend.
I have absolutely no commercial interest in it.

Definite improvement in service

Just thought I'd pay a compliment to AIS 12Call for a change. I lost my SIM card last week. Phoned the AIS call centre (1175), spoke to an agent who had near perfect English. I was told to go to a Telewiz shop with my passport and that the SIM card would be replaced on the spot. Went to the shop (at...
