Re: Where can I buy a sewing machine?

Try the Singer shop on Petchkasem Road. As you go north from town, it's the second shop before Somtawin School (almost opposite soi 51) on the same side as Somtawin. There's an awning outside with the Singer logo on it. I go in there to buy machine oil occasionally and they have various machines lyi...

Re: What's Happened To The Water in Hua Hin?

That's clear as mud. (Google translate?). Anyway, maybe its saying that full service for everyone won't be resumed for 2 days from 1am Sunday 10th Dec (according to the post on the page before). We can live in hope although our household was lucky yesterday as we managed to get a tank refill and tha...

Re: Kasikorn Debit Card

When it was first mentioned in another thread, it was mooted that the card wouldn't work elsewhere and I just assumed that made sense because, for instance, UK cards have a four digit code and thought the machines would be made to only identify that. I'm not likely to use it much abroad but if it wo...

What's Happened To The Water in Hua Hin?

It appears that large swathes of town are without mains water. We didn't notice it until yesterday lunchtime when our tank ran dry. We'd have been a bit more careful in the summer months but after all the rain we've had this season it just didn't cross our minds to regularly check the level. Other f...

Re: Chatchai Market

I think it's getting ready to go at about 5am. Stays open till about 5pm but you're much better off getting there in the mornings for freshness, variety of food and open stalls. I'm not a great shopper but I don't mind going there sometimes. If you're into markets, then you should visit. There are a...

Kasikorn Debit Card

Mine expires at the end of this year so I'll pop down to bank next week to get a new one. I seem to remember that there was a discussion a little while ago about PIN numbers being extended from 4 to maybe 6 or 7 digits. Of course, not only is that a bit more difficult to remember (getting old these ...

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

No need for a bar. There's a convenience shop just outside.
Maybe the difference between us is that I live here. Maybe?
When I get back from wherever, I'm home and immediately not in a rush to do anything. But I would agree that being home is miles better than the smoking area outside of Swampi!!

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

Why not just plan to take the later bus? I never schedule anything on-time, except for my arrival to the airport for the first flight, when I travel. Good advice. I just sit outside, have my cigarette and a few beers. If I have to wait for two hours, well it doesn't bother me. And if there is an ea...

Re: One or 5 years membership at Hua Hin Golfclubs

I haven't replied because I don't know about availability or prices. However, Springfield and Majestic Creek have 5 year memberships although I don't know if there's a limitless supply of them or you have to buy off an existing member. I think the same may be true at Lake View. Don't know about the ...

Re: Thailand to England move

Cooler weather, VS? About 10 years ago, I had to go back to England for 3 months. My property in London was being underpinned (fortunately an insurance job) but I had no rent for that time. It was easier to go back, stay with family and then travel down to London and try and do a lot of the touching...

Re: Books

I promised a review of le Carre's latest offering "A Legacy of Spies" and after putting it off for a while, I finally got through it a few days ago so here's my thoughts. I'll try not to give too much away. Most of what I mention you'll encounter in the first 30 odd pages. First off, I thought it wa...

AC/DC's Malcolm Young Passes Away

Sad news for all us Rock 'n' Rollers. Malcolm Young has passed away, aged 64.
If I have a beer later, I'll put some loud music on. Hope the neighbours won't mind!!
