Re: Routine Eye Sight tests in Thailand

That's fair enough. I would certainly classify him as "cautious".

Re: Routine Eye Sight tests in Thailand

Must admit that I've have a slightly different experience with the doctor. A couple of years ago, I went there for a sight test which was done well and then there was a full eye check (I never asked for that but what the hell, might as well get it done). Result, I've got cataracts. So, am then taken...

Re: Army in new bid to get its airship flying

Honestly, I got about 60% of the way through that article and then I just smiled and gave up.
There are just so many faux pas it's not true.
After 19 years here, I just give up.

John Wither, who teaches out of Banyan GC, is one the best around.
I'm sure that if you called the course, they'd give you his contact details.

Re: Start of the Jellyfish Season?

The jellyfish are always there year round but it's normally September and October when currents drift them inshore that you're most likely to encounter them. You should be OK at Xmas time but if you see lots of them washed up on the shore it's probably best to stay out of the sea. That's unlikely th...

Yeah, certified translations are normally needed for Embassies - ie of a Thai marriage certificate.

I'm a professional at crossing. Sometimes, I feel like I can fly.
As a confirmed pedestrian, there's no road wide enough that I won't try and cross it blindfolded and with ear plugs in.
Petchkasem Road? Easy.

Is that how you drive, BB?
If I even did, personally I'd take the more direct route of getting drunk, driving as fast I could go and then wiping out the maximum number of people possible before I ran out of petrol.

Re: Govt offers course for women who marry foreigners

Thailand, the hub of overseas income. No wonder their foreign reserve account is so healthy. As tourism is maybe down on targets, this opportunity is ripe for picking. I suppose we can all get cynical about this but my sister-in-law seemed to be pretty much set to go to one of the Arabian countries ...

Re: Snakes in the house and garden

Millipedes are slow wandering grazers that don't look any scarier than a fat earthworm with a lot of legs. Centipedes look evil and are fast. IMHO Correct. Just the colour of them is enough warning. And then their speed. Scary monsters. I'd much prefer to come across a snake but not an angry one. M...

Re: Snakes in the house and garden

I believe it is a harmless Kukri, I have had many in my garden, including this one which we found dead along with a 300mm millipede. DSC03227-1.jpg Incidentally, that's no millipede but a centipede - OK, what's a few legs? Answer, the difference between being pretty much harmless (millipede) and pr...

Re: Snakes in the house and garden

I'm not very good at identifying snakes but if it was very aggressive and it had a arrow shaped head (and it looks like it might have had) then there's a possibility of it having been a viper, possibly pit viper. If so, Mrs BB was lucky.

Re: Start of the Jellyfish Season?

I think all kinds of jellyfish are found here. Most are harmless, some sting but not badly and some are very dangerous.
At this time of year, well I don't go into the sea.
I'm sure that marine biologists will give a better steer.

Yes, if I'm coming back home late from town, I never use a motorcycle taxi any more - I've normally had a few beers anyway.
A tuk tuk is only 100 THB and a motorcycle taxi will always try and take me for at least 60. I know which is safer.
