Re: Langugae school for ED visa

By coincidence you should post this as I'm gathering tools to learn a third language. Wrote most of this to post on a language site, but it works here. First find out how they teach you to make a sound that doesn't exist in any language you know. Is it listen and repeat until you can consistently ge...

Re: Australian biker stuck in Thailand

If I understand this, Australia issued a visa so he could return. But they had no intention of letting him return. The visa saved them the trouble of deporting him.

Re: Opening a Thai bank account

I didn't have a visa, just my passport & visa exempt entry. Two banks said no, 1 gave me a form without instructions, and instructions for a differe...

Re: Getting rid of an old mattress

are you intending to keep your knackered old mistress or does the mistress go with the mattress, cus after all the mistress is the thing that goes between the master and the mattress.? Couldn't help but recognizing in parts of that the rhythm of this well known (to Yanks of a certain age) line of d...

Re: Movies on DVD

A Terminator inspired character - Bollywood style The movie title doesn't matter. I've had multiple assurances there is no need to watch the movie. And no reason to not watch the final scene. All you need to know is the obvious lead character is a robot. Who, in version 2.0, becomes the villain. Con...

Re: Hua Hin address map?

Just remembered this. You think Thailand addresses are bad, it could be worse: Nicaragua. Instead of street names or numbers Nicaraguans use reference points from where they start describing a certain address. ... An example could be From the Calvario Church, 1 block south, half a block east Sometim...

Re: New Ford Ranger Raptor

No timing belts for me. When it fails usually the engine is destroyed. Have never heard of a timing chain failing. If it's a non-interference engine chain or belt doesn't matter because such engines are designed so the valves and piston at maximum extension do not occupy the same space. Interferenc...

That wouldn't work in my Soi. There are several 'block numbers' and 'house numbers' are totally random.
Of course it would. He knows it would still be trial and error. And that a map of block numbers would narrow down the area to be searched.

All this illustrates a very good reason to get a GPS, learn how to use it properly, and encourage people to give GPS coordinates instead of crazy undecipherable directions.

Re: Smoking ex-pats

I started this thread, no secret agenda--I just asked the simple question--Why is the % of British ex-pats who smoke so much higher than British people in Britain. A simple public health and sociological enquiry. The answer is statistical: expats are not a representative sample of the population, i...

Re: Desiccant sachets for food?

Lazada has dessicants, didn't check if they're food safe. Given the products were most likely made in China, the manufacturer may not have checked either. Searching 'silica gel' there returns packets of the size found in food and meds.
