Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

I’m not sure the established car companies are very actively trying to stop Electric cars - they all have a range of cars already available and many more in the pipeline. Their obvious and understandable gripe is that governments like in the UK are imposing significant targets to be achieved in sale...

Doctors warn of hot summer heatstrokes

Depends on how much you can afford!!
Apart from the cost, I’m not sure that I’d like to be in an air-conditioned environment all day long and spend virtually all of the daytime hours outside under shade. It’s still fairly hot but bearable

Re: Thai internet speed problems

There was/is a cable break somewhere west of Singapore. Cable name is SEA-ME-WE 5. This will only affect international traffic though. Maybe that’s it then because i normally have my VPN on set to the UK for things like the BBC website and UK Heart radio which is cutting in and out every 30 seconds...

Re: Thailand News Summary - Police Corruption

Well they know it’s a problem but will they tackle it head on - it would be good to think they will but……. https://www.thaienquirer.com/51954/the-thai-police-need-a-complete-overhaul/ I've been away this weekend, and whilst in Phitsanulok this morning, I encountered the largest open example of poli...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

This article is specifically UK biased but also makes reference to the issues in the EU and US about car manufacturers not meeting their projected car sales figures and hence huge discounts being offered - although they still are below target sales figures - it’s not looking very rosy in the near fu...

How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

Similar to why they close every other u-turn crossing on holidays - i cannot think of a single benefit but they continue because that’s how it is!!

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

Irrespective of what department they work for, I think that what most of us would like to see (but probably never will) are cops driving traffic cars that implement the rules of the road and pull over the speeding lane dodgers and other infringers that are a menace to the law abiding drivers. Sent f...

Re: Football (not Premier League)

It may not be right or what many of us like, but the sad reality of modern day football is that success generally speaking only comes with money!! It’s probably one of the main reasons why I’ve lost a lot of interest in the game.

Re: Dubai airport (DXB) flooded

Not in any way trying to justify their inaction, but this was a once in a lifetime event that obviously caught them completely unprepared. I guess they’re acting a bit like they often do in Thailand and don’t want to admit to their deficiencies - whereas all you and people similarly affected are loo...

Re: Football (not Premier League)

Aye, but Leicester are going up and Plymouth are dangling by a thread, so there’s some merit in it!!

Re: Football (not Premier League)

Teams that get relegated from the Premier often pay much higher wages than those that have been there for a number of years - I guess there’s no real surprise there. At the moment, Leicester are odds on to return so they’re very fortunate - a lot of clubs languish for a number of years if not even d...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

I’m not sure I’d agree that it’s not their job, but like so many things out here, there’s no accountability so they can get away with lurking under trees and picking up small value fines for minor infringements like not wearing helmets or seatbelts.

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

The article I posted also mentions the Traffic Cops - I’m sure that most of us only see them when they’re doing “escort duties” for so called VIP’s!!

I can remember following a traffic car once and a pickup came by at break-neck speed and what did the traffic car do - continued on its normal route!!

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

In the UK I have a hybrid car - a Renault Captur and although it’s more economical than a straightforward car with just an ICE, it has a very limited range in EV only mode, typically 1-2 miles before the petrol engine kicks in and then out again as the battery recharges. It’s obviously a small cont...
