Re: Human fetuses found among household garbage in Hua Hin

I feel sorry for the women who had to go such a traumatic experience of aborting a baby after being 6 or 8 months preganant. I would guess that they didn't choose that option on a whim, and probably thought long and hard before going ahead with it. Yes, they should have made that decision months ago...

Re: The Bitcoin and cryptocurrency thread

^Just watched the programme. Didn't learn anything new, just a rehash of whatever's been posted in the news during the last couple of months. Typically of Panorama (which used to be a great progamme 30 yrs ago), it was desperately trying to dig up some dirt and showing a pyramid scam, and a mummsy h...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand

OK, that's one tiny little step - better than nowt. I gave my students a lecture today about drinking straws. I told them they don't need them for their purchases of water, orange juice, etc. Just say no! While I was at it I told them to refuse carrier bags. I'm going to keep bashing it in - my swan...

Re: Smoking ex-pats

My friend has just received his e-cigarette in the post and is really pleased with it. It gives off no offensive clouds of smoke and he can puff on it (like a normal cigarette) and exhale something that looks like smoke. Just to test out its offensiveness he puffed it in his friend's face, and said ...

Re: House for rent in Nakhon Pathom

Some interior photos of the house for any potential renters. Just a reminder that it will be available for rent from August 1st, and the monthly rental is 8,000 baht. We don't own the house, just trying to help the lovely landlord out. It's in Nakhon Pathom (60km west of Bangkok) - just scroll up fo...

Oh, and the best response to a post this year (so far) goes to DM. :thumb: Excellent! I can almost see the scorn dripping from your keyboard, like tar from the cheap cigarette clasped between my teeth as I type with two yellow, nicotine-stained fingers, eyes squinting against the smoke, my chest whe...

Re: NHS treatment back in the UK if resident in HH?

My appendix decided to burst when we were visiting family in Scotland in 2000. I'd already been living in Thailand for over 2 and a half years. I gave my Mum's address as my home address. I didn't get charged. Thank goodness it happened where it did. I don't think I'd be here now if I had had to go ...

Re: NHS treatment back in the UK if resident in HH?

I watched an interesting documentary about this a few months ago. Medical tourists from India have been (are still?) taking advantage of the NHS. Some Indian doctors and administrators of hospitals have made a nice little earner getting their 'patients' free treatment. It's the same old story that t...

Re: NHS treatment back in the UK if resident in HH?

I haven't personally had any experience of going back to the UK for any treatment, but I do know somebody who has. If you go back to the UK for hospital treatment, you have to provide evidence that you will be staying there and are not there as a 'medical tourist'. This involves registering with a G...

Re: Wildlife hunters must face justice

150,000 baht bail for a multi-millionaire construction tycoon? It's a joke. :cuss: Best punishment for him and his mates would be to let them loose (naked of course) in a forest and use them as target practice for the rangers. The rangers could video them ducking and diving for cover, whilst getting...

Re: Possible land purchase 2.5km outside HH centre. Planning to build houses. Advice please.

Another option is to sell, bank the money and go and rent in HH, and get a feel for the place / idea. If you rent your property in the UK, would the income be enough to cover the mortgage and give you enough money to rent a place here? I agree with JJB, that it's probably unwise for you to burn you...

Re: Smoking ex-pats

How about this for an explanation---- the expat community contains more guys who are very individualistic, don't like rules, don't like conventions, don't care what others think about them. I think you've (also) hit the nail on the head there, Oakdale. I enjoy watching UK medical documentaries, and...
