Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

Thanks for that very kind offer DM, I'll bear it in mind when we're sleeping on the streets of Retford having not found a suitable house to rent.

Re: Men and their mistresses

Getting back to men and their mistresses: If Mr.VS told me he was going off for the night to sleep with his mia noi, he'd find his clothes in the klong outside our house the next morning. On the other hand, from what I've seen and talked about with students, very few of them have both mum and dad li...

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

Wet rooms are certainly the best. Even I, with a slightly smaller body size than DM, find it constricting having a shower in a cubicle. Never really got into the bum gun - so I'm OK with loo roll.

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

Thanks for the hugely insightful replies DM, HHTel and Buksida. You've given me some good food for thought, and I feel more confident that we'll be able to slot back into UK/European culture. It's difficult to imagine what we'll miss until it's not there. Mags: If you're still reading this forum, I'...

Re: Farang Contempt for Thais?

I used to employ people in the UK, and I'd send a letter to every applicant that I didn't interview thanking them for their application and wishing them luck (I'm not talking about hundreds here...). As far as those I interviewed, I'd explain why they didn't get the job. This was generally pre-mobil...

Re: TV series worth downloading

Thanks for the tip about The Loch Cameljockey - I'd completely forgotten about it. Being married to a Scot, it should be right up his street (or loch), and being a 6-parter it's right up my lake. I do hope that the accents aren't too strong, as I sometimes struggle to understand strong Scottish acce...

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

DM: I have a question for you. What things do you really now miss from living in Thailand? Mr.VS and I are doing a lot of thinking at the moment about where we see ourselves in 5 years' time. Getting older, and all the things that go with that inevitable future are obviously points to seriously cons...

Re: TV series worth downloading

Liar : A 6-part British TV series about a possible date-rape. Just watched episode 2 and we're hooked. It's extremely well-written, and I keep flip-flopping as to who I think is the 'Liar' (or liars?). It's one of those '6 parts and it's done' series, which I love. Long enough to keep my interest, ...

Yes, darling. I tightened up Kitty's collar. She's just gasping her last breath and then I'll feed her to the big boy.

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

I do hate the title 'Sin Taxes'. Since when has smoking and drinking become a sin? Lying, stealing, and killing are sins in my book (and the books of most religions). All of which are constantly being committed by those who are in charge of the country. Not only is the minimum wage for low income wo...

Re: What Do You Feed Your Dog

That's a super-cute looking dog, PH. We were adopted by a stray dog a couple of years ago. She survived for the first year and a half being fed by the old folks in the Old Folks' Home next door. Then I guess the staff were changed and she got skinnier and skinnier. I decided to step in and give her ...

Re: Bitcoin mining and cryptocurrency thread

Going by the numerous adverts on the internet encouraging people to borrow cash to invest in cryptocurrencies I wonder if we are heading for another dot com type crash. I haven't seen those adds, but to borrow money (at whatever interest rate they charge) to speculate on cryptos is lunacy. In the l...

Re: Utah nurse arrested over blood sample

I don't think it matters what law is in which state, what matters here is that a nurse was bullied and handcuffed by a police officer for following the rules of her profession.

Words fail me...

Re: Bitcoin mining and cryptocurrency thread

Tempting, but I don't actually need the money right now. Cryptocurrency went a bit wild last night, and it's now settling down. It'll creep up again. One very sensible article I read said: "Don't panic buy, or sell". If I thought that ETH had no future, then I'd be cashing it in right now, but I'll ...
