Re: Smart driver's licences launched

The validity hasn't changed. The licence is valid for 5 years from your next birthday. If you go just after your birthday, you will get almost 6 years.

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

So the likes of 7-11 were illegal :? I actually agree with you by the way, but how many put their prices up on day 1, irrespective of whether or not it was old stock? In a lot of cases, the wholesalers have increased the prices from day 1. Bars and restaurants who don't hold large stocks (usually t...

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

It was suggested that some retailers will absorb the increase on the more competitive brands. However, it's illegal to raise the price of old stock. I would imagine Tesco has a fair amount of stock to shift before new stock comes into play.

Sad story but I'd always assume the colour red means danger. I'm sure the no swimming flags in the UK are red. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This takes into account the change from the Julian calender and the changes in the Gregorian calender (dropped 11 days for starters)!!

Re: GBP vs THB

Does any poster have really serious plan to return to the UK if the baht gets below a certain level, say 40. I group of British guys that I know had this conversation some time ago and all agreed, below 45 and they are gone, but they are still all here. Only one person I know and as I previously po...

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Went to a couple of my local bar/restaurants today. One had her 'old stock' bottles marked so she knew which were old price. Both wholesellers had told them that 2.66 baht tax was on all bottles, large and small. With a bit extra for the increased VAT they rounded up an increase of 5 baht for all be...

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

it is good that there are only a few places selling it. You need a fast turnover. Once the cask is tapped it needs to be sold in a couple of days otherwise the Guinness becomes less fresh and vibrant. Whenever I go to UK my brother usually keeps a couple of cans of draught guinness in his fridge .....

Well after tomorrow, a pint here is not going to be cheaper than 'back home'. But when you're on a 2 week holiday, who cares!

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Well if all the news coming from various sources today is true, a large bottle of Chang will be cheaper in London. Most supermarkets are selling large Singha and Chang at 2 quid or less. Buy half a dozen and it comes down to around 1.50 Must ask my daughter to bring some Thai beer the next time she ...
