Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

The increase in tax is fixed. Retail prices are up to the seller and is speculation. Honest retailers will just pass on the tax hike. But not everyone is honest.

Re: Drones/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)

Approval/registration comes as a document/licence issued by the Transport Ministry along with rules that the user must adhere to. This is required if over 2kgs and/or has a camera. You must be 18. You must have insurance. etc etc. Procedure for authorisation: Registration of copter (form download) a...

Re: Farang Contempt for Thais?

My daughter is the HR manager for a large company. She's said in the past that applications/cv's are commonly ignored unless an interview is imminent. However, following an interview, she's never heard of the outcome being ignored. The result will almost always be communicated by e-mail or phone cal...

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

I'll just re-iterate the experience of my daughter (half Thai) and my son. Both have been in the UK for a year now. My son was here for 12 years (came when he was 21) and my daughter born in the UK and came to Thailand when she was five (19 now). Now these two are of the younger generation and both ...

Re: Possible leak from incoming water

In Bangkok it may of been the case 20 years ago or so, but not now. It is very much the case now. To quote one example, my wife's family live in Nongkaam. Their house was about 3 quarters down the water pipe. (tends to be a single pipe down each side of each soi). The further down the line, the pre...

Re: Population of Hua Hin or anywhere for that matter.

Not even that. A census is a snapshot. Records who is where at a given point. Census Is a Snapshot • What: The census is a count of everyone residing in Thailand. • Who: Every Thai resident must be counted – both citizens and non citizens. The census coverage would include: ¾ Every Thai citizen who ...

And what can they charge these guys with. Not aiding and abetting a fugitive as she has not been convicted of anything. Interesting to see how this pans out.
Anyway, she's gone and won't be back.

Re: Possible leak from incoming water

Sorry mate, but it is both illegal and very bad practice to have a pump with the suction connected directly to the mains supply. The supply should ALWAYS be via some form of settling tank. You're probably right but I can show you many instances where the pump is suctioned directly to the main suppl...

Re: Population of Hua Hin or anywhere for that matter.

I think the only believable source is the National Statistics Office who is responsible for the 10 yearly census. They produce a full demographic of each region but that is just a snapshot in time.

Re: Possible leak from incoming water

A good indication of a leak is if the pump switches on momentarily every so often when nothing is being used. Unless the pump is faulty, it will maintain the pressure leak or not. (which is why it keeps switching on when there's a leak).
