Re: Renewing a UK passport in Thailand
I've had this problem before. I'm with Bangkok Bank and their cards (I think all Thai bank cards) are red flagged. I've had to use a UK card in the past. I've helped others who have only got Thai bank cards.

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?
Not directly linked to deaths but I've been back in the UK for the first time in over 20 years and one thing I've noticed, in fact glaringly obvious, is that queues of traffic whether at a stop sign, traffic lights or just a traffic jam is that there is almost a car's length between each vehicle in ...

Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax
From what I remember and read, the 500 baht machines closed down in 2007. The tax was increased to 700 baht and the airlines were made responsible for it's collection and for onward payment to the AoT.

Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax
There used to be a kiosk at Don Muang that collected your 500 baht after check in on departure. Then it was added to tickets, the thing is where will they draw the line and will we see the benefits? A long time ago but from what I remember, that was 'airport tax' not 'tourist tax' and applied to ev...

Re: Hua Hin water shortage
I have a setup like BB with a huge underground tank. The outlet from the tank to the pump should be off the floor somewhat as that ensures the silt will settle below the outlet. Logically, the water being pumped from the tank should be cleaner than direct supply as much of the crap in the mains supp...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?
I couldn’t see in the photo what colour the lights were at, but if they were red and the car didn’t stop then it’s a clear violation of the Highway Code. The crossing light changed from the 'red' man to the little green 'walking' man. Therefore the traffic lights must have been at red. The black va...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?
From Buksi: but "right of way" isn't really a concept that exists in the land of "me first". Neither is the phrase found anywhere in the UK Highway Code: The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give w...

Re: Thailand News Summary
The pic in the 'accident' report is one that pees me off. 3 lane highway made into a 4 lane highway giving zero chance of any emergency vehicles to pass. It's not as if they get to their destination any quicker. Just plain stupid.

Re: Buying a new Forza or Xmax
I have a Forza 300. 10 years old now but it's NEVER let me down in all those years. Have been south as far as Phuket a couple of times. The new Forza 350 is higher and sleeker with a few added extras. I'd pick the Forza for reliability. I always deal with the Honda dealer opposite Salesian school (T...

Re: Restaurant at the end /start of road 112
I used to sit there when it was previously a restaurant. Have a couple of beers and watch the roundabout getting gridlocked then the chaos that ensued.

Re: Songkran to become 1 month festival
The mayor has actually admitted that the water stoppages are in order to redirect water supply for 'Songkran' festivities! Hua Hin’s water management authorities have said there will be a temporary suspension of the water supply from the Khao Laeng Water Production Plant. The suspension, aimed at re...

Re: Songkran to become 1 month festival
Regarding Pattaya, Songkran always lasts for 10 days and has for years. I believe they also call it the Pattaya Festival.I DID read that the water fighting (Sorry TaT..err, I mean 'splashing') started in Pattaya yesterday!
